I’m a young woman in my early 20s, and I found myself, for the first time in my life, with disposable income in the recent couple of years. I’ve done a good deal of online shopping, and honestly I had an epiphany that vetting principles really do also apply there as well
know what you want - what thing you exactly want, what’s important to you
look around to see the options you have, what’s available, see the best price you can get for quality (I’ve actually found the exact same item sold with different prices, some varying from $3-$30 on different sites)
look into the background - specifications, exact description, etc.
vet carefully - reviews, potential issues, etc.
if things don’t work out or you’re not satisfied, you can return or throw away the item
if what you want isn’t available, you can save and keep your money until you find what you want
Other points:
make sure it’s what you want and what works for you, rather than what other people want or have told you that you should want
be aware of the potential pitfalls - ie. a knockoff, poor quality, short life (not long-lasting) so you know what to watch for
listen to your gut feeling - if you get a bad feeling about something, there’s likely something to it
definitely shop around and look for options
Caveat - not saying dating is like a marketplace (because there’s people involved - I obviously don’t want to compare people to inanimate objects), my point is moreso many of the principles of choosing among options to get what you want also applies here
Edit/Update: also - increase your options! Look on many different platforms to see what’s available and so you can get the best.
Also, I find that vetting applies to so many other things - choosing a university, job, even choosing courses/classes (time, requirement, qualities of the professor, grading, workload, personal interest/enjoyment, etc.)
P.S. I have also decided to start my own blog! It’s stil just in development and right now is just my previous forum posts, but if you’re interested feel free to check it out here: https://femcurrent2.wordpress.com
Great list! Shopping sites are terrible now. So many companies selling shitty products with fake positive reviews, even on the huge platforms like Amazon. Interesting that you say "if what you want isn’t available, you can save and keep your money until you find what you want". The problem is that 'what you want' is often just never available, so you end up settling for something that only vaguely fills the need. A lot like dating.
Ughh I needed to see this today. I got these really cute above knee high heeled boots and they’re SO comfortable but the colour is just not my style. I’m telling myself I should keep it cuz it’s rare to find comfortable heels and I can keep it for rare occasions but it’s just not giving me the excited feeling I get when I wear something I really love. Same thing with another pair of yoga shorts I bought. I’ve been debating whether or not to return them but after seeing this I will be returning them. Thank you!! 🥰
