My friend, who I’ll call A (also from my previous post), has been taking psychology this term as a requirement for her medical degree, and we actually discussed how a lot of the psychology principles she’s been learning and doing in class actually align with a lot of what FDS advises. Chiefly, the guidelines and recommendations about being a little unavailable at first and making a potential suitor invest in you & the relationship and prove himself first align with some actual concepts in psychology:
Scarcity principle - people value more what seems scarce. If you’re a little bit stingy and scarce with your attention initially, apparently it’ll likely be valued more
Intermittent reinforcement - people tend to cling more to doing things and the possibility of reward (attention, social interaction) when it’s inconsistently, or not always rewarded - ie. this would be like responding to texts whenever you feel like, a little inconsistently, and them wanting your attention more
Sunk cost fallacy - the principle that the more time, energy, or effort is invested in something, the more likely someone is to stay with that something. This aligns with the FDS principle of getting a man to invest in you a lot initially. If he invested so much, why would he be likely to not appreciate the relationship, take it for granted, or even engage in relationship-ruining behaviour later? (Also this discern serious and suitors from non-serious and non-committed ones)
So literal psychology actually validates a lot of what FDS states…
This is so interesting, but I do hate that we have to resort to so many tactics when dealing with men and that it’s so difficult for them to treat others with respect. Still, how FDS advice aligns with literal psychology is interesting… 🤔
Edit - all these psychology points do also explain why people stay in bad relationships - I might do a follow-up post explaining that
P.S. I have also decided to start my own blog! It’s stil just in development and right now is just my previous forum posts, but if you’re interested feel free to check it out here: https://femcurrent2.wordpress.com
