This was said to me (a single mom) by a coworker. Her sister’s getting divorced and she’s been asking me for advice on how to help her get full custody. I was just so taken aback by this comment- it was such a slap on the face. But you know what?
Today is my birthday. And last night when I got home from work I came home to:
The house decorated with streamers and balloons.
A poster board with “41” and a smiley face, all written in butterfingers (my favorite candy).
A pie with candles in it (because I hate cake).
A scavenger hunt that led to a sweet birthday note from my sons.
My kids get excellent grades in school. They have zero behavioral problems. They are the kind of kids that other parents push their kids to hang out with because they know they are good influences. I could not be more proud of my boys. And I really do believe the biggest reason that they are thriving is because of the men I have kept OUT of their lives. I have not dated in years, because I have not found a man worthy of us.
I do believe HVM exist, rare as they may be. And I even believe I will find one someday- and when I do, I’ll be free to date him. I won’t be tied down to some LVM I started dating out of fear of being single, fear of my children having behavioral problems, fear of whatever else. It’s FEAR that keeps women tethered to LVM. And I’ve got none. Nothing but gratitude and excitement for what’s to come.
Here’s to a scrote-free 41.
Happy birthday! Yeah cheers on not dealing with that shit
Happy birthday!! Great post. Totally agree with you about removing men from children’s lives - a great move.
