My sublet fell through when I came to Portugal at the last minute. I ended up leaving and going to the UK staying with my cousin for this week. Im either going to fly back home to Canada next week or find another sublet/airbnb/rent. But Im having a REALLy hard time finding a place last minute in either Portugal, Spain and France. Im now debating going back home to Canada and travel again in the fall. OR should I keep travelling and have faith things will work out if I dont go back home?
How do you make the best decision for you when it comes to traveling?
As someone who travels a lot, I recommend always pre-planning your housing before the trip unless you are native and speak the language of the country (or know someone that can arrange that for you when you arrive). DO NOT ever figure things out last minute.
travelling is potentially very dangerous for a woman. it's liberating, but it can also be exhausting without a home base, a place that you can relax and recharge your soul in safety.
i once ran out of money in Bogota, Colombia of all places while i was travelling alone. my flight was cancelled and i hadn't planned on staying one more night in the country. i stayed calm and miraculously ended up finding a cab to a nearby hotel, got a room, told the concierge i would not be able to pay for my room...and somehow he waived my charge. if i hadn't been exhausted, i would not have slept a wink that night, being so hypervigilant about sh*t hitting the fan. anyway, it all worked out, but i NEVER want to be in that situation again!
even though it will cost more in the short-term, i would go back home and regroup. you'll have a much steadier foot if you have a plan for when you return to Europe.
stay safe!
