I bought one of those vibrating face scrubbers and I just realized that I don't have the face wash to go with it!🤦♀️ Here's a rough list of all the problems I face:
Oily face, but only some parts. Is there something to de-oil, or make my face produce less oil to begin with?
Removes dark spots on the corners of my mouth + underneath chin + other places on my face
(I have heard literally no one else on the internet mention this)
The corners of my mouth tend to get drier than the rest of my lips. I know I need the hydration but I also have an oily face sooooo...
Thank you for stopping by to help me find a face wash! 💕
I use Cetaphil cleanser and Cetaphil moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. Then I put on facial sunscreen.
You must include tretinoin in your skin care to remove black heads and control the oiliness. You can get prescription from any of your healthcare providers
Hey, I’m going to reply to all of your points and give your some additional information and resources
1. Foam cleansers are amazing for those with oily skin as they remove the oil layer from the skin. If you have dry skin, cream cleansers might be more suitable to you than foam cleansers. If you have normal skin, your skin is very well balanced and you can choose based on your personal preference.
2. A mere cleanser can’t remove dark spots or any skin care issue one has with their skin. You can buy a cleanser, which has an active ingredient which helps to combat your skin care problem, however, I believe buying a cleanser with an active cleanser for the face is a waste of money. Think about it! When you wash your face, the cleanser sits on your face between 45-60 secs before you rinse it. There’s not time to work. I’m not saying it doesn’t have any benefits at all, but the benefits are small compared to using supplementary skin care products. What are supplementary skincare products/ steps? Any product, which is not part of a basic skincare routine and there to assist your individual goals with your skin. E.g. You want to increase collagen production on your skin? Even out your skin tone? Then you are more likely to use retinoids or vitamin C. You have a dull complexion? Then you are more likely to use an exfoliant ( AHA, PHA, BHA etc.) What’s a basic skincare routine? Dermatologists agree that a skincare routine consists of mainly three steps: Cleanse- Moisture- SPF (AT DAYTIME)
To answer your question what can help with dark spots around your mouth and chin. You first have to ask yourself what causes them and treat the underlying issue? If you get PIH ( post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation; very common on those with darker skin tones) then you want to use something which decreases your skin to produce excessive melanin and also include something which speeds up cell turn over.
Some ingredients which contain help your skin to produce less excessive pigment aka hyperpigmentation (tyrosinase inhibitor)
- Kojic Acid
- Alpha Arbutin
- Azelaic Acid
- Retinoid
- Tranexamic Acid
- Etc.
Since I don’t know your budget, I’m simply listing some ingredients you should check out. If you want some product recommendations I can give you one :)
I want to applaud you on your awareness. You notice your skin lacks some hydration, but point out you have oily skin. I like to tell you that there’s a difference hydration and oily skin. Hydration, or the lack of dehydration, is about water. If your skin is dehydrated it lacks water content. Drinking 800 cups of water won’t fix that. You include ingredients which include hydrating ingredients. Having Oily skin means your skin produces too much sebum. People with dry skin are people those skin does not produce enough sebum. People with normal skin have very balanced sebum production. You can have dehydrated skin with oily, dry or even normal skin because it’s about water. Since your main concern is your oily skin have you tried to include a BHA? A chemical exfoliant which is better for people with Oily skin? Cleansing will not do everything you need it to do. I have combination skin and I personally only use cleansing oil (which is oil and an emulsifier so you can wash it off with water). Anything that foams mostly has harsh surfactants in it which will harm your skin barrier. Often when your skin is too oily, you don't need to dry it out, it needs more moisture. I'd also be careful with those face scrubbers because mechanical abrasion can unnecessarily irritate the skin, too. You want your skin to be able to do the job it does naturally, not rely too much on products and procedures. As for dark spots, that usually goes away with chemical exfoliants (like lactic acid), which you leave on for a bit, cleansing only will likely not get rid of them. For hydration I use moisturizers which have very few or no oils, but still attract moisture into the skin (humectants: for example glycerin, polysaccharides, hyaluronic acid, urea, etc -- you have to try what's best for you).
Be careful about over washing your face. That can be the cause of your skin issues as well..
Cetaphil
LA Roch Posay their entire line
I don't use it right now but the best facial cleanser I've ever used (after a light oil cleanse) is Sulwhasoo, which I believe is a Korean brand. It was phenomenal; one of the best pH balanced cleansers, which is their focus in a lot of Asian cleansing products, and also creamy
Dark Angels by Lush,
and Ocean Salt is a good scrub.
I've been loving the Olay 7-in-1 facewash every morning! Not expensive at all and has a refreshing citrus scent and mild exfoliant
I have combination skin. In the morning I use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser followed by a facial mist spray and spf. I like this cleanser in the morning because it’s very gentle and won’t leave my face feeling dry.
In the evening I use CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (usually wash my face in the shower) followed by a good moisturizer. I like this cleanser for the evening because it’s more powerful than my morning one and removes all the sweat, dirt and spf I’ve had on my face all day. It does dry my skin out more but it’s not too much of an issue for me because I immediately moisturize afterwards.
Oh my gosh, I have so much to learn about skincare! Thank you so much for all the AMAZING replies!!!!! 🏆☺️
I more have a dry skin problem but I use cerave for normal to dry skin and an olay face lotion.
You can put a mattifier on oily areas instead of moisturizer. Formula 10.0.6 Seriously Shine Free really works, but smells sorta bad. Milani matte setting spray also works well.
E.L.F. matte setting spray and E.L.F. mattifying lotion do nothing. The La Roche mattifying lotion also was a waste of money. Pacifica mattifying setting spray with sunscreen literally removed all of my makeup and was a rip off. I hate that brand.
