Hello Queens,
After a hiatus, I hoped to finish what I started; my current quest to impart experience with skin care to help level up.
I myself am exceptionally oily, hence why I begin with this skin type routine, theory, and links if I can track them all down.
Truthfully, this skin type is a potent asset to have if you know what you are doing. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of skin surface structure and ingredient interaction knowledge here.
When managed correctly with routine and appropriate diet (that completely fulfills your skin’s needs), you can slow the aging process of your face and body to the point that people will genuinely be unable to determine your age accurately, which is a potent strategic asset professionally and interpersonally, settings, that, as we all know, are not built for female benefit. Thus, skin Maintanence is an excellent investment of resources.
Everyone that has this skin type knows intimately the results of ignorance: acne and other skin complications if unlucky.
I hope to impart my complete routine and important considerations here for the benefit of my fellow oily queens.
If you have a different skin type as revealed by the test mentioned in the skin type test post I wrote previously, I must emphasize this documented routine will not benefit your skin.
Do Not Attempt.
Please wait for the skin type analysis & routine recommendations relevant to your specific skin type!
First, it is essential to review the structure of skin itself; more specifically, the differences between healthy skin and unhealthy skin.
In essence, healthy skin is visibly apparent as such primarily because it has a barrier with sufficient oil and water soluble compounds to ensure that the water and oil soluble nutrients your skin needs can be efficiently delivered to the deeper skin layers to ensure your skin can maintain elasticity, interconnections with neighboring cells, and water retention to continue optimal skin cell function.
Knowing each layer of skin is nice knowledge to generally have, but the main takeaway left to impart is that the skin is like a sponge. where it can absorb limited quantities of nutrient resources at a time.
These reasons are why successful skincare routines are designed to accommodate the daily circadian rhythm processes the skin undergoes throughout the 24 hr cycle.
Expect at minimum a morning routine and a night routine to take utmost advantage of the innate skin organ behaviors of each 12 hour phase of the day.
Most of the reasons for oily skin type common issues I ever saw was literally because the people of this skin type do not hydrate often enough. Lack of water often encouraged the interconnections between neighboring skin cells to falter and form cracks for acne causing bacteria to enter into unauthorized side entrances to the oil producing portions each portion of skin, where the skin is overproducing oil to ensure that skin remains somewhat elastic despite the lack of water.
Fundamentally, I found that oily skin type acne is the result of the following contributing factors.
Lack of water
surplus of oil production from a lack of water in diet or environment. Or a surplus of oil from one’s diet.
these two previous factors altering the surface pH of your skin to encourage the increase of acne bacteria populations overwhelming the presence of benevolent bacteria necessary for skin health.
the imbalance of oil/water barrier leading to vulnerabilities in the skin
excess of dead skin that covers pores
uniformity of the skin surface also contributes to whether it is likely for miniscule cracks to exist.
Alter one or two of these factors and the complete set of conditions required for acne to form in oily skin cannot be met and thus acne is solved.
I personally recommend beginning with a consistent routine to both control the skin surface pH and the decreased number of skin vulnerabilities.
controlling these two factors will vastly decrease the incidents of acne bacteria entering the pore, thus reducing the surface areas of skin that are acne prone until finally there is no more acne formation.
I am of the opinion that a gentle skincare product approach consistently applied twice a day over the span of 4-6 months for beginners absolutely will resolve 90% of skin issues common to this skin type.
I can say that primarily because that was my lived experience within the first 6 months of my employment in skin care. part of my employment requirement was to use the routines and items we recommended for clients to ensure we could answer questions about how best to use the products and recommended routines.
It absolutely does work and I am rooting for you all the way.
Morning routine for beginners
gentle cleanser designed for oily skin applied gently with a damp physical exfoliation cloth in smooth low pressure movements to get excess dead skin and oil together off of the skin. A cleanser that is too strong will take too much oil away at once and will promptly induce a greater release of oil than your skin usually does to accommodate the sudden loss of available oil. Ensuring the flaking rough skin is mostly gone leaving an uniform surface is also vital since pores can clog very easily and the subsequent steps need to have the ability to penetrate as deep as possible for this skin type. This is an Essential step that cannot be skipped. Do not go cheap drugstore on this one!
pH stabilizing toner. this will accomplish the feat of making a surface environment that is hostile for acne bacteria population growth no matter how much oil your skin releases. This is why this step is absolutely essential.
Water-soluble ingredient serum. We need introduction of a continuous water source close to the skin so that all skin cells have ideal conditions required to intake further nutrients introduced by subsequent steps over the anticipated 12 hour period that the whole barrier should be in place to protect the skin.
oil/lipid soluble serum; this one is essential for beginners because it helps build a uniform foundation for the skin to receive a barrier that keeps the introduced water serum closest to the skin while also introducing lipid-soluble nutrients that the skin needs but cannot be produced by the human body.
moisturizer: this is the final frontier of the barrier for basic skin health before the introduction of sunscreen. It keeps the previous items tightly adhered to the skin and are often formulated with Additional benefits depending upon the manufacturer and product.
sunscreen: I refer to this need in another post of this series.
makeup: strictly optional, but I wished to place this here for the appropriate context for beginners that are curious as to the correct placement order of skincare sequence (steps 1-6) and makeup.
night routine
makeup eraser microfiber cloth with water to remove any daywear makeup and sunscreen. This is to ensure the majority of water resistant cosmetics are off the skin and to extend the lifespan use of the gentle skin cleanser.
gentle skin cleanser
pH balancing toner
water soluble serum
oil soluble serum
moisturizer
these sequences are the general rules of thumb for oily skin type maintanence.
I hope these posts are helpful and I hope to polish their structures in coming days to accommodate ease of comprehension and the inclusion of product link recommendations since I author these posts on mobile.
Thanks for your patience and I look forward to questions.
