Hello Queens,
I am back from hiatus to finish my current quest: helping queens level up via my experience with skincare.
If you have a different skin type as revealed by the test mentioned in the skin type test post I wrote previously, I must emphasize this documented routine will not benefit your skin.
Do Not Attempt.
Please wait for the skin type analysis & routine recommendations relevant to your specific skin type!
First, it is essential to review the structure of skin itself; more specifically, the differences between healthy skin and unhealthy skin.
In essence, healthy skin is visibly apparent as such primarily because it has a barrier with sufficient oil and water soluble compounds to ensure that the water and oil soluble nutrients your skin needs can be efficiently delivered to the deeper skin layers to ensure your skin can maintain elasticity, interconnections with neighboring cells, and water retention to continue optimal skin cell function.
Knowing each layer of skin is nice knowledge to generally have, but the main takeaway left to impart is that the skin is like a sponge. where it can absorb limited quantities of nutrient resources at a time.
These reasons are why successful skincare routines are designed to accommodate the daily circadian rhythm processes the skin undergoes throughout the 24 hr cycle.
Expect at minimum a morning routine and a night routine to take utmost advantage of the innate skin organ behaviors of each 12 hour phase of the day.
First dry skin is unique because there is no oil generally present on the skin. generally I also find there is dehydration too, which is doubly difficult for skin to cope with, and thus dry skin routines must accommodate that possibility.
Since most dry skin clients I encountered had uniform deprivation of oil, it follows a uniform distribution of a variety of nutrient rich items are required.
Do not skimp!
I will outline a basic routine for beginners, but note that the quality of items used really matters for the best results for this skin type, since they need manual introduction of all nutrients Needed.
Morning routine
Gentle cleanser for dry skin: you need something that will soften skin and leave skin a little bit more supple since you need a cleanser that gives resources for your skin to work with for the subsequent steps while removing dirt and other debris.
once a week; mild chemical exfoliant to ensure that flakey skin is removed to allow skin care to soak deeper. Ingredients here that are essential are pineapple or papaya enzyme. Anything else is too harsh a solute.
optional: oil soluble ingredient toner; it can provide a more efficient pathway for nutrients to absorb into the skin throughout the day.
Serums: water then oil. It is necessary.
moisturize: this is essential since the dry skin type needs one that is made specifically for dry skin needs
sunscreen; life essential
makeup: optional. Water soluble makeup can work ok for this skin type.
night routine
gentle cleanser
Water serum
oil serum
Facial moisturizer

Thanks for your patience.
As for the tretinoin, I beg you to try the above thing first, since I deeply believe that seeing what your skin lacks, finding the gentlest vehicle for delivering those needs consistently (2x a day) for at least 3 months will do your skin a greater service to restructure it for a more resilient surface layer in the long term.
Sorry for the late response but did you try pairing the retinol with a hyaluronic acid serum? I hear that might help with the skin’s ability to ingest retinol at a rate your skin might tolerate better.
Thank you!
Is it worth the risk trying tretinoin?
I've had several goes with retinol, but it never reached a stage where skin would stop flaking from irritation by it.
