Dear sisters,
maybe one of you skincare pros can help me:
I have pretty bad keratosis pilaris on my upper arms and legs and have been battling it since my teenage years. I have thankfully found a good routine to get rid of the bumps and dryness by now, so my skin is nice and smooth but the discoloration (red spots) is still very noticeable. It looks like I have a rash on my legs. If you don't know what I mean, try googling "keratosis pilaris", find a picture that makes you say "It can be that bad?!" - that's my legs.
I have tried pretty much every recommended cream, treatment and exfoliant under the sun (stopped shaving for a while in case it's just irritation: no effect, tried hair removal cream or epilating instead of shaving: no effect, started peeling, stopped peeling etc. etc.) and consulted dermatologists but nothing had even the slightest effect on the discoloration. I have very light skin and dark hair, so the hair follicles are already quite visible, but the redness of the keratosis basically makes it impossible to wear shorts or a skirt/dress without pantyhose. And if I wear light nude/skin colored pantyhose it is even visible through that.
Does anyone have a tip or last resort for me? I feel a little ridiculous that it bothers me that much, but I really want to wear shorts in summer without feeling self conscious about it for once.
What helped me most was ndyag laser hair removal and nightly applying salicylic acid serum from the ordinary . Supplements : vit C 500 mg a day . Good luck 🤞
Oh I feel your pain… I’ve struggled with KP for years, too, though I only have it on the backs of my upper arms. In the summer it tends to look better, and in the winter it looks worse which I think has to do with the dry air. Sometimes on bad days when I want to wear short sleeves and go out to a party or whatever, I do actually put tinted moisturiser over it :/ I wish there were something that could help with the discolouration which is also what I struggle with more than the bumpiness. Following this thread!
Personally speaking the only thing that helped get rid of my strawberry skin for good was my laser hair removal treatment.
I have a little on my arms that i can keep in check with those Korean exfoliating towels. I wonder if laser treatments would work?
If it's blood vessel red, probably, electric coagulation (vosculyse) or laser can work? That would take lots of time and money though. Maybe spray tan / autobronzant?
