I really do think I got a better deal on my last car because of fighting back with salesmen who were scrotes.
I knew which car I wanted and I knew the area I am in has a lot of that make and model. I researched the price I should pay which is below the kbb because of supply. I asked to test drive at every place.
so many scrote salesmen in car dealerships tried to tell me that they can’t budge on the advertised price because “it’s on sale” ”it’s already reduced as much as we can”
I know for a fact that they can(and probably do so more easily for a male buyer). you can practically see them foam at the mouth over an unaccompanied woman walking into a dealership.
I was really hoping for a woman in sales in my search, but did not find one.
Anyway my search went with a lot of car sales men who tried to get me to buy right away, acted like they can’t do anything on the price, then when I say never mind i will go to another place is “ohhh let me talk to my manager, let’s see what we can do for you” and then they make me wait and disappear for a while and come back with “oh well we can offer $150 off” and then spend 5 whole minutes talking about what a great deal they are giving me, start using big words to explain how this and that about the car is in great condition, do I know what a transmission is because this one has these specs, and then trying to show me how the Bluetooth works in the car and try to sell me on how good the speakers are.
so I went to more places. each place the salesmen didn’t think I would walk out at some point because every time you try to get the price lower, they say they will talk to the manager and then they disappear for a longer time on you hoping you will just give in because you been waiting so long.
anyway I got fed up of saying “my budget is xxxx” and being told ”well it’s xxxx plus xxx” while knowing that they definitely go down by that much. I began getting bolder and told the next place “if it’s not xxxx price” whatever I had originally said-”and that’s with the taxes” then i won’t be buying here and you don’t have to waste time talking to the manager for me.
I got my car (it is used and from 2015 btw) for over $2500 off plus the dmv fees and all that because they even tried to sneak that in and I was about to walk out of the office in the middle of the sale if thy didn’t take off that extra 250 or so to make up for taxes and fees. They made me work every step of the way to get that. It was anxiety inducing and I felt on the defensive the whole time, kinda like how it feels to navigate spending time with a man without him coercing me into sex or something else i dont feel like doing.
I really really hate how bargaining is a thing when getting a car because I do not want to pay more than anyone else just because men think women are more gullible! also I know many people can afford more than me so why should a skill that not everyone is good at determine what they pay?
I know some people will say that’s just how sales works, but I used to be a manager at an electronics store. I was in charge of 53 employees on commission and the most absolute scrote men would prey upon women customers and make sure they took them for maximum commission. They were the laziest workers too. They laughed whenever they sold a T.V. that was 3k to a woman and then turn around and sell another model of the same T.V. to a man for 2500 easily even though it would reduce their commission from 700 bucks to 200. They just did it to buy more drinks and cocaine for their bros, and also to laugh amongst themselves about how dumb and gullible women are. they did the same tactics of being overwhelming and condescending to lady customers and being more difficult to them if they wanted to bargain; our store was known for bargaining which I am never a fan of.
there are not as many commissioned sales jobs now here, but just having worked in them I know that dudes always see women as an easy mark and they really do take pleasure in making us pay more than a guy would. Be careful, be stubborn.
Thank you. I am hunting for a car right now and I'm walking away if the conditions are not to my liking. It's so tiring to play their games and have them trying to lower our standards by trying to gaslight/confuse us. E.g. I asked if the car was accident-free car to which I received a reply saying "not sure/no major accidents". How can you be unsure of a car you are selling? Others would throw in "freebies" such a car wax/unnecessary items.
Any tips on getting a car (how not to get scammed) would be great!
I was thinking about this too as I will need to buy a car soon. It's so strange how they make it far more difficult for female customers and then act like that makes women gullible. They're the ones who are changing the rules based on gender. I'm sure if a man had to go to like seven places and everyone was condescending and trying to overcharge them, they would also pay more on average -.-
Can I ask how you knew the ballpark figure for the car you wanted? Is there a place you can look up previous sale prices, like with houses?
Edit: oh and also thank you for making this post! Such important info here.
I'm in th market for a new car and a scrote dealer recently saved me from making a huge mistake! He was just so appalling. During the test drive, I had the air conditioner blasting (intentionally- I wanted to be sure it worked) and he turned it down! Even when scrotes are trying to get us to buy a car from them they have the audacity to think they can control the temp. Then he couldn't answer basic questions about the car. Like, fool- you're trying to get me to make a $20,000 purchase and you know less about your product than I did about a $10 menu when I was a waitress! Lol. Anyway, I went home that day and did my homework- and learned new cars are going for almost the same amount as used these days. I think I'm going to buy my first ever car- a brand new 'Rolla.
Thanks, Scrote!
Great post. Very useful as I may soon need a car. Thank you.
