Anyone else had broscientist Andrew Huberman come up on their YouTube feeds?
His videos are always titled "NEUROSCIENTIST (all caps)" followed by some broscience about biohacking or other pseudoscientific babble. He loves to make appearances on Joe Rogain's show, and has done multiple interviews with Jordan Peterson. He hawks supplements and is a huge proponent of boosting testosterone (as if lack of testosterone is really the problem in most men).
Understand: THIS MAN IS NOT A DOCTOR.
He has a PhD, and his background is primarily in psychology.
Yes, he gets recommended to me daily. I tried watching him once but didn't get far, his whole vibe just turned me off. Very bro-ish.
At this point, I just don't listen to self help from men (my only exception is Dr. Gabor Maté, I could listen to him for hours). Most of it just seems super inhuman, they have this strange desire to hack themselves to perfection. Where as most of the female self help creators tend to be more balanced, more spiritual. They talk about working with your nature, rather than against it. Which is a lot more realistic, imo.
Neuroscience is only a couple of steps away from being a psuedoscience now. Part of the problem is that it's so nebulously defined, and most of the data they're building on has been derived from studies that weren't properly performed. Hence all the "science bros" and supplement scammers latching onto it. Meaningless data can be framed to support any hypothesis you want.

Yeah, I've made a post about this bro-ification of mental health and neuroscience that was heavily inspired by the likes of Huberman. I understand he's a scientist, but the whole "optimize and hack yourself down to the smallest details" angle is not for me, and I think it mainly speaks to men who believe they can become the next CEO of Megacorp X by listening to his podcast.
I've always been super suspicious of him because of his association with nootropics-obsessed dude bros, but honestly he had a podcast on women's reproductive health (with an actual woman medical professional on it) and she suggested a supplement that helped me get off birth control. Prior to that I had to be on it for years to avoid insomnia.
All his podcasts on dopamine and motivation make me cackle with glee thinking about all the scrotes desperately listening to them while wondering how their porn and video game addicted asses ended up where they are.
Honestly I learned a lot from Andrew because he simply hosts doctors on the show regarding topics and it’s up to the listener to filter through. I don’t know him as a person as I care about content mostly. But I have found a new podcast by a woman and I love it already!! It’s called “the neuro experience by Louisa Nicola”. She talks about women health and many other topics.
