The sweater of accountability is very itchy and uncomfortable, which is why most men refuse to put it on. Blaming women for their shortcommings is more of a one size fits all.
I cackled at "as men, we bring our own unique perspective". Dude, whether your peen is excited or your ego is validated by a piece of fiction is not a unique, groundbreaking perspective. This is what most of male literary "analysis" boils down to.
My ex was really into fiction. I realized that when he was “analyzing” fiction, a lot of the time he was just projecting his own thoughts and feelings onto the characters. He would just completely make stuff up. He had a problem with living vicariously through fictional characters.

There is too much wrong with this idiot for me to even list but I'll try.
Why is this idiot dividing the concept of literacy up into "men's literacy" and "women's literacy." Thoughts written down as words are not gendered.
I bet if we kept all books the same but changed the authors' names from male to female names, this idiot never would have noticed that anything was "wrong."
Women are not permitted to read write or attend school in much of the world.
Does he not have access to a fucking public library. Is he physically prevented from going to a motherfucking library.
Is he trying to say that sci-fi is for boys and all other fiction is for girls? This person is mentally handicapped.
The vast majority of the people who TEACH MEN TO READ are WOMEN TEACHERS.
Maybe "men's" books about video games and comics suck so much because THEY FUCKING SUCK AND ARE BORING AS FUCK. WHY IS THAT WOMEN'S FAULT. STOP DOING BORING SHIT WITH YOUR LIVES AND MAJOR PUBLISHERS WILL STOP CATERING TO IT THEN, IDIOT.
If that is the extent of his exposure to this concept he has named "books" then maybe he is actually a 10 year old child, I really don't know.
The vast majority of all aspects of human culture have historically been and continue to be dominated by men: not only books, but music, movies, art, etc.
Look when he says "I don't know what the solution to this problem is." READ A BOOK IDIOT. THAT IS THE SOLUTION. ENGAGE IN LIFE. FIND A TOPIC THAT YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT OTHER THAN PORN AND FIND A BOOK ON IT AND HOLD IT UP IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES.
I'm curious, what exactly you not like about it? Or is it moreso because it just wasn't able to fully grab your attention, because that happens to me a lot. Like there's nothing wrong with the book per se, but I just didn't care about it because it just wasn't my vibe.
I've never read it, so idk. I only know it's one of my uncles's favorite books, but he's a professor and he is very literate, so he has actually read it lol. And I know there are some insider jokes like "never forget a towel" and "42 is the meaning of life" but I have no clue about the context.
Also as if there were no books written by men or providing a male perspective. There are thousands. Be the change you want to see in the world and look for other men who enjoy reading as well if you want to discuss books with other men. Didn’t Pewdiepie for example have a video series about the books he has read and talked about what he liked about them and what they're about?
But oh no, women made reading not cool or whatever.

I think he spent 30 seconds traipsing through a Barnes and Noble one time to buy comics and happened to see the romance novel section out of the corner of his eye, and then that hurt his feelings. Honestly how can anyone be so detached from the reality and history of human existence.
Man, this is happening in my home area as well :( we used to have a biiig beautiful book store in the main shopping area of my home city but it got closed and was replaced by another fast fashion store. I also had so many teenage memories going there with friends or my mom and it also had a cute café in the top floor. I miss it so much.
"As men, we bring unique perspectives..." LOL. This whole post is written like an oppressed man who lives in a matriarchy. Seriously I think this is a Chat GPT prompt. "Write a post in an alternative universe where men are underrepresented in literature and media. Make a call to action to get more men to read"
Reading is my #1 hobby. The few times I’ve found men who do read, they only read sci-fi or fantasy fiction. Which is fine, but they often feel the need to try and convince me that their “advanced” sci-fi/fantasy fiction is superior and more intellectual than anything I typically enjoy reading, including non-fiction. Which I don’t understand; I’m not a book snob and I don’t think I come across that way. I just don’t typically enjoy those genres so when they ask me if I’ve read LOTR or something like that, I just say “no.”
I once got into (what I really thought was) a friendly debate with a college professor I had just started dating about fiction vs. non fiction. He tried to tell me that fiction (like LOTR) requires you to think more. I pointed out why that wasn’t true (in a friendly and respectful tone, because I know how touchy their egos are). I didn’t even say non-fiction was better, just explained how it does require thought and reflection. He kind of shut down for the rest of the conversation and then ghosted me.
I remember once I was sitting in my seat on a plane (headphones on, buckled in and obviously not interested in starting a convo) reading Michio Kaku and this dude sits next to me proceeds to get nosy then FUCKING GRABS MY ARM to get my attention to start up a convo to prove he was smarter than the woman reading a book about ASTROPHYSICS. I got the flight attendants to move me. Next to this sweet old lady who wanted to know all about my garden plans for the summer.
Now I ignore them and give them the laser stare when they try to get my attention. A PhD does not intelligent make.
It’s like our interest in consuming anything that requires a brain offends them. “Oh, look! A woman reading a book that’s over my head. My inferiority complex has been triggered and I must challenge!”
This is a baffling phenomenon. When anything is dominated by women, it becomes "feminized" and men want nothing to do with it, even if it's to their own detriment. Interesting how there's a "loneliness epidemic" for men, but they refuse to do anything about it, like joining a book club and connecting to other people through the beauty of literature. God forbid they have to sit with women and have a conversation that is not centered around them. That would simply be too much for them. Reading might also reduce a sense of loneliness by activating their imaginations, giving them empathy for other people, and letting them know that things they feel have been felt by others for centuries. How sad to avoid something so positive like reading books just because lots of women also like reading.

This is a specific tactic they use.
-Step 1: Women do a thing.
-Step 2: Men can't do it now and are resentful, ensuring their own failure.
There should be a name for it like there is for gaslighting or backfooting.

Exactly. We end up getting blamed when they are the ones who caused the problem.

Good point. I'm convinced that this is actually at the root of so many men problems, like boys failing in school at higher rates because being a good student (quiet, attentive, respectful of authority) is somehow "feminine" and uncool, as well as reading books, bettering yourself, washing your privates, caring about your appearance, eating well, having close friends with whom you share more than a superficial bond, having a rich and fulfilling inner world, not centering your entire sense of self and worth around how much sex you can extort from the opposite sex, being good with money, staying out of debt, having a steady job, being in touch with your health and so on so forth.
I read books every day and I tell men to do it as well. Their responses are laden with narcissism and "I already know how the FDA lies to us" , they find masculinity in pretending they know more than women AT ALL TIMES. It doesn't even matter what your degree is, they "already know it".
This is so true. Any time I’d recommend something I genuinely thought they’d be interested in: “Why would I need to read that? I already know all that.”
One time I said “Ok, can you explain this part to me then?” He just blatantly made something up, like I’m two years old and wouldn’t question it.
So it's not enough for this guy that 95% of all celebrated authors are male; he doesn't even like that women are reading them. In the time it took him to type out this whinging rant, he could have made a "men's reading club" event on meetup, or asked a few of his friends to start one with him. Or started reading an actual book.
Sooo... it's our fault men are illiterate because we enjoy reading books. Got it.

I am so extremely triggered. God what an idiot.

Let's label breathing oxygen as a feminine act 🤭

Does he want a book with pictures to go along with the story instead?
They love to read Manga🤣
