I guess my microsoft newsfeed has noticed my FDS habits because almost every day there's a "news" story about some dating situation gone awry. Today it was a TikTok where the man and woman both drove to a meeting place (a restaurant of a sort) but then, instead of going in and having a meal, he's standing outside her car trying to convince her to hop in his truck and drive to the house of one of his friends, who is supposedly waiting there with his own girlfriend and they can "double date" or rather just hang out at the friend's house. Or (much more likely) this scrote would drive her who-knows-where and something pretty terrible would happen.
The young woman starts filming the conversation (with her phone in her lap, so you can see the guy outside her car window) and it's so cringey to hear him trying all kinds of angles... "I drove 40 minutes" (to which she replies, "So did I")... "I thought you'd be down with meeting them"... "I went to all-boys middle school with this guy" (as if that means squat!)... and the really weird "You were in the Army, so I guess you could kick ass if you needed to" (look at that, he absolutely knows that she recognizes this as an unsafe situation, he just doesn't care). Oh, and he complains about the food at that (unseen) restaurant, says he doesn't want coffee because it would "make his heart race... even more than you're already making it race" (he's just randomly trying to blame her for anything at this point) and also "I don't know what there is to do around here."
The conversation goes on much longer than I would have let it, myself, but I'm just gonna go ahead and be proud of this young woman for standing up to him and leaving the situation eventually. I hope she blocked and deleted as soon as she was safely out of range.
It sounds like a total lie to me. He drove 40 minutes out and he just happened to have a friends house nearby? He was just looking for a reason to isolate and hurt her
She probably let the convo go on longer than usual because she was filming for TikTok. The safe thing to do is lock all car doors, roll up the windows, and drive away.
Men trying to change plans last minute is an absolute, glaring red flag and a reason to turn around and leave immediately. They do this on purpose. They count on you being less likely to walk away when they present their "alternative" because you are already there and have invested something (have driven there, dressed up, taken time off...).
It's classic bait and switch. They promise a decent date and suddenly it's...
"The restaurant is not that great/ is closed today, let's go to that cheap place around the corner instead!"
"I'm actually not hungry, shall we go to a bar/my place directly and hang out?"
"The weather is so nice! Let's just grab a coffee to go and take a walk in the park instead!"
"What a coincidence! My friend is celebrating his birthday around the corner, let's go there after dinner!"
"I invited someone else, too, so we can double date! You don't mind, do you?"
"We just need to stop by my apartment/my bro's place quickly, you can come up, too! It will only take a minute!"
I got a bad bad feeling reading that he said she made her heart race.
Criminals/people who know they're about to do something dark that they're not supposed to do will most likely have a "racing heart" because of the anxiety and fear they're feeling. This situation could've ended in a much more sinister way.
That's some spooky shit 😳
