Greetings good women of FDS!
Tis the season for the V-Day roundup. You may remember last year's report from Whole Foods where I witnessed a lineup to the door of dudes waiting to buy generic flowers for their ladies. Shame!
This year I popped out to get myself a V-Day cake to share with my gal pals in the building and grab a few essentials.
Let me set the stage...
It's a gorgeous but chilly sunny day where I live. People are out on the street and walking around. I was sporting my new cat eye sunglasses. Meow!
My observations
At the grocery store, soooo many single men wandering around like lost puppies. Some were scouting the Valentine's section, others were talking to the florist. Never seen that many single guys in the grocery store on a weekday morning! They were like Sims, just wandering around half-heartedly picking stuff up and putting it back down. They're prob still there, as I sit here typing this.
On the street, I noticed plenty of couples walking along the Main Street in this trendy neighbourhood. What struck me was how shittily the couples were dressed. Literally every couple I saw (at least 10) were wearing sweatpants and sneakers. I get you're going for a walk, but this is a flat street with cute restaurants, stores and bars. If you're going out for a Valentine's lunch or cocktail, maybe wear jeans instead of house sweats. This is a casual city, but come on.
The other thing I noticed about the couples is how bored and disengaged they were together. Barely speaking to each other, looking on their phones, looking at the people and stores around them etc. It was rare to see a couple actively engaged in conversation or with each other's presence. Another bullet dodged!
Nothing brings me more joy on Valentine's than watching couples that hate each other. I can't wait to die alone.
Had a fancy Valentine’s Lunch in the city with my man and I swear we thought maybe we got the date wrong because no one was dressed up and going on dates! So many couples wandering around just in tracksuits and hanging at fast food joints… or so many businessmen rushing to the homeless-looking man selling last-minute roses...
I can totally imagine how those men must have looked like uninteractable npcs 😆
Lol I love the Sims reference 🤣 That's exactly what happens in the game sometimes.
Single mom here, had a great valentines day, made a card for my daughter, as I usually do, helped at her valentines day event, took my daughters to dollar tree after school and she made a snack stand with her little haul which we enjoyed with dinner after. Life is so much easier completely ignoring men's absolute disappointment of existence and just enjoying a day to celebrate love 😁👍
This is what we were all waiting for!!! 👑 I hope you make this an annual FDS tradition or do field reports on more holidays - you are comedy gold.
I thought I was the only one who found Valentine's day amusing! 😂 I saw a lot of disinterested couples too. I feel like a lot of them stay together just for the sake of saying they're in a relationship, even though they dislike each other. Their loss.
Also sooo many greasy, unwashed, ugly men walking around with cheap looking bouquets of half dead flowers.
And the amount of sad, low effort walk dates! Never fails to make me glad that I'm single and not wasting my valuable time with that bs ❤
Now this is my energy 😂 I cooked myself a delicious meal after a good day's work and then sat down with some whiskey to listen to a podcast.
Thank you for the laugh - it is seriously something I have noticed as well, especially now since living near (and hanging out in) a major US city. There is an epidemic of lvm that wear sweats / gym clothes while going out on a date, while the woman is usually dressed real cute. You can see the women put effort into getting herself dolled up with trying to make a great impression, whilist the man couldnt probably be bothered to change his clothes let alone shower.

the guys like that struggle to even make conversation and i've noticed the lvm will be on their phones more and more rather than engaging with her.
it's a shame but i am so glad its not me or you enduring that.
