Rant!
I reported a user yesterday because he was being abusive towards other commenters under a feminist post. It was a case of a casual "I'm better than you" attitude, the kind where they unashamedly state men are superior, and degrade anyone who disagrees.
I don't report people simply because I don't like them. It was a clear case of harrassment. So today I get an automated response: "We've reviewed _____'s account and found that it doesn't go against our Community Guidelines".
I don't know about anyone else, but I've yet to have a single report on Instagram be taken seriously. Not one misogynist has been punished and it's SO frustrating. Twitter has been great in comparison; I remember reporting fatphobic comments and having moderation agree near immediately.
Has anyone successfully reported harrassment on Instagram? Please correct me if I'm somehow doing it wrong. What is Instagram doing to keep their users safe?
They only take down posts if they fear losing money. Misogynists make them a lot of money. Reporting alone rarely works. Misogyny is deemed normal culture and not hate. Tech bros don't care about women, they care about money. So unless it's explicitly illegal there is no point. You are just wasting time.
It was a big news story two years ago after a study was done revealing that 9 out of 10 instagram reports for misogyny and dick pics are completely ignored. Instagram didn’t even deal with reports from famous women, let alone average women. Instagram is historically misogynist (as is facebook).

I've gotten the same reply over animal abuse.
Men can't be superior if they behave like this. Superior beings don't lower themselves to a tantrum throwing manlet.
I’m guessing that Facebook has the same moderators because they’re both part of Meta?
I once reported something on Facebook, a nude picture of an older woman who didn’t look like she knew she was being photographed, and the caption implied that as well.
They took over a month to reply, and simply said “This post doesn’t violate our guidelines.” Okay? What DOES violate them then?
If you write "men are trash" on ig you will near instantly get an full screen unskippable warning to remove your comment or you cannot participate on the app anymore. Of course, the misogyny comments are still there 🙄 I reported a racist account masquerading as one of those insta info graphics social justice types, and it was on that liberals want to bring in Mexican immagrant rapists! blm is racist toward white people. Few days later, it said nothing was wrong.
Honestly it's a form of privilege. Women and minorities are aware that reporting a comment is removing a liter in a sea of poison so it's just not worth it. But pushback againy male supremacy, white supremacy etc is more rare so bigots can actually get the system to recognize those comments as hate
