Has anyone seen it? I took a break from studying and decided to watch this on whim. It's a true story based on a Mennonite community in Canada. It's intense.
Its inspiring, these women did not know the depth of violence they were exposed to in their day to day lives, and had no knowledge of the world outside. Just the preserverence and propensity for kindness and the calm they had to have to completely change their world and everything they knew. I really recommend it.
It reminded me of what it had to take to leave a particularly distressing situation at a very young age. I was too young to remember the details, but I remember the fear and remember the extreme relief that paired with the trepidation of a new life.
Disclaimer: it does involve some graphic ideas, but they are not glorified, and not shown on screen, only the aftermath is alluded to and there is some blood.
I watched it a few months ago. I found it incredibly hard to watch so I wouldn't watch it again, I had really horrible nightmares the night I watched it, but I agree it's inspiring too. (And very very sad too).
I read the book! It is very heavy so I wouldn’t read it again, but it’s definitely worth reading once.
Where is it playing? Netflix?
