I'm facing eviction from my landlord, and I believe the notice is invalid and retaliatory.
After reporting a dog bite incident from my upstairs neighbor’s dog shortly after moving in, I received an eviction notice under Section 8, accusing me of anti-social behavior. Many of these claims seem misleading, lack evidence or specific dates, and are defamatory, falsely accusing me and my visitors of serious allegations. This is just another instance of harassment I've faced since living here.
Even a police officer found the reasons weak, questioning if the neighbours have connections to the landlord. Upstairs previously agreed to muzzle their dog after the incident, but they haven’t followed through.
It feels like they and the landlord are working together against me since they own their property in a freehold arrangement, while my landlord is primarily concerned about protecting herself and her business.
To protect myself, I installed cameras in communal areas. Since receiving the eviction notice, the neighbors have been taunting me and slamming doors late at night, which is all recorded. Yet, they have accused me of slamming doors. They claim I have been harassing other neighbours outside our apartment block, but I have plenty of video evidence showing I've formed positive relationships with neighbours.
Moreover, there is evidence that they have been watching me in my private garden, as they can see into it from their upstairs window.
A police officer confirmed that I’m allowed to have cameras outside my property for safety, especially after the dog attack; however, my landlord insists I can't have cameras while the neighbors have hidden ones.
In a side note, while reviewing my doorbell camera footage, I noticed that the boyfriend makes his girlfriend do all the heavy lifting—for example, she struggles with a huge waste bin while he just watches, and she carries all the heavy shopping. As a single tenant, I manage all these tasks myself, but if I had a partner, I’d expect him to pull his weight.
The boyfriend seems to be the one instigating intimidation and harassment, and their interactions show no affection or smiles towards each other. He leered at me during our only interaction before the dog attack, which raised my suspicions about him having traits of a malignant narcissist, while his girlfriend appears to be a covert one.
If this goes to court, they will likely come across as foolish and the true perpetrators.
I am taking all necessary steps to hold the neighbours accountable for the dog attack to ensure the safety of others, but I can’t outline those details as it’s an ongoing matter.
Has anyone dealt with a similar experience? I would appreciate any tips or support from the community. Thank you!
I understand if it's too private to say, but are you guys minorities? This sounds like your landlord or neighbour or both hate you for seriously unfounded reasons and I was wondering if there's some deeper rooted issue going on.
At any rate do NOT let them bully you out of leaving if you can help it!
