My sister put me onto her music and honestly Chappell is incredibly talented. I'm not a big follower of celebrities or gossip but my sister lately has been telling me how Chappell is new to fame and won an award recently. Some of the "fans" seem to be more like creeps and stalkers and she's apparently been putting down boundaries. She wants personal space and doesn't want to be swarmed wherever she goes, she doesn't want to be harassed - shocking right? Some of these men keep calling her by her birth name rather than Chappell which is her stage name - just to agitate her. And I guess recently a paparazzi /photographer said something to her (of course a dude) and she got defensive and cussed him out.
Now of course, the media still hates women, especially an lqbtq woman, and they're painting her as "rude" and saying "she can't handle fame" and even trying to say it's what she signed up for.
Historically, I can't really think of any other famous women who told off the media or paparazzi or tried to set firm boundaries like Chappell is trying to.
Chappell even mentioned that many other famous women like Charlie xcx and Lady Gaga have reached out to her as a friend, a support system, and to offer advice while no surprise she hasn't heard anything from men (other than Elton John).
My point is that it is 2024 and here we still are - a woman who is successful and talented and bringing more of a voice to the lqbtq community - and she gets absolutely slammed by the media and painted as a rude /childish monster.
Honestly I don't have much knowledge about this but my sister is only in high school and she is a lesbian in a very harsh religious/conservative community and she really enjoys and relates to Chappells work. She's been standing up for herself more to school bullies as well. I don't know exactly what happens in the world of famous people and gossip, but it really just seems like this young woman is trying to be one of the few to put her foot down to the creeps and harassment of fame! I hope she continues to succeed in her endeavors and I really hope she inspires other women especially to also stand their ground and stop putting up with scrotes and their bs. We really need someone like her to set an example as so many other women celebrities get stalked, harassed, etc often and just seem to not do or say much about it.
There was a post on Twitter that said women in Hollywood are given a grace period and then after that they're canceled.
Chappelle should keep speaking her truth. There is something deeply disturbing about fan culture. They think they own you
Some fans are so obnoxious that they actually make me not want to go see certain artist. They ruin it for everyone.
Ps. If you love Chappell you'll also love The Last Dinner Party💞
I don't like her at all. She IS rude. and she CAN'T handle fame. BUT: Fame is FU CK ED. Fame these days especially is a toxic, toxic, machine and wasteland. really. The industry is brutal with women. It's like those women are the witches on the stake. We think we have it bad? Women in the public eye get 10000000x more of it and much worse. Can you imagine?
So yeah, I agree with you on a lot of this, but I don't think she's a particularly quality person, just my personal opinion.

It happens all the time, you just haven't been looking. Almost every artist has had insulting interviewer questions and absolute BS. Off the top of my head I can think of interviews and other statements I've seen from artists such as Madonna, Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Kate Winslet, Britney, JLO, and more. They've been fighting this BS for decades. It never ends.
