I am angry. Rant time. As if we aren’t punished enough with exorbitant tax rates being single, these scrotes have the audacity to consider taxing us more. I would seriously revolt. I pay tax through my teeth for shit I hardly benefit from. I’m not entitled to half the shit my money goes to bc apparently I can afford it all upfront according to my govt. So I have to pay more fucking fees. It is utter bullshit.
I have worked my ass off to get where I am, having grown up poor, raised by a struggling single mum working 2-3 jobs at a time, barely working class. She got zero govt support. Zilch. Having made it to the middle class means I am absolutely exploited. Tax breaks for the lower class (understandably), tax breaks for the upper class (fuck them), while the middle class gets reamed.
Every time I see things like this, I get one step closer from being childfree to full-blown anti-natalist. The world IS overpopulated! The earth is in crisis. More humans = more mouths to feed, more resources sapped. The ladies are right, this is just westerners reeing that their white genes are dying out. Fuck their shitty imperialist genes. May they die out in droves.
I also appreciate that the ladies raised how men’s defective sperm is not being discussed in the article. All the blame around reproductive issues is placed on women. Absolutely infuriates me. How about these scrotes consider the shitty quality men with their shitty lifestyles, shitty personalities, and even shittier defective inferior sperm. Why the actual fuck would any woman with half a brain want that disgusting loser material travelling up their body? Yeah, that’s a resounding hell fucking no from me. You are not entitled to women’s bodies, to our wombs. Die fucking mad scrotes.
Savannah, if you read this, I 100% support you writing that response letter and would happily draft it with you!
Agreed. I would say eating garbage, limited physical activity and jerking off incessantly to pixels probably has something to do with it. The rugged frontiersman, farmer, hunter, or hard-working artisan of yore, they are not.
Just want to give kudos to the queens for another wonderful podcast. I know there’s a little cross pollination with the FPS pod but I personally love hearing about this stuff because it’s impossible to talk about women’s place in society without touching on how misogynistic and abusive every political structure is towards women.
A subsidy given to already established couples who want to have children... would do more to raise the birth rate. Lots of married couples want to have more kids, but can't afford the costs of raising their kids (due to Covid-19 related problems with employment and rising cost of living, rising expenses, price inflation all over the world...). Many couples are deciding to have less kids as a result of our current reality. That is why the birth rate is dropping globally.
Giving financial aid to struggling families (who have young children, and are going to have or want to have more kids) would help boost the birth rate.
I am honestly still waiting for an argument why sinking birth rates and fewer humans on this planet are a bad thing. All things considered that sounds like exactly what we need.
Oh, and before someone cries "But the pension/social system!": A system that relies on exploiting women for free labor to generate new tax payers to the point of actively forcing them to be mothers against their will (e.g. by banning abortions or making birth control expensive and hard to access) and punishes women who don't comply (e.g. by shaming child free women and making them pay higher taxes) is deeply flawed and inhuman. It was built on the enslavement of women and now that women wake up and realize there's more to life or actually want something in return for their efforts it crumbles. Add the biggest joke in history: that mothers get the lowest pensions because they "wasted" so much time birthing and raising new taxpayers instead of being "actually productive" in the workforce.
A new system is needed, not more children born to people who actually don't want or can't provide for them. I don't hate children. I love them. That's why I want them to only be born into families where they are truly loved, deeply wanted and well provided for. As children and loved family members, not as future tax payers.
I'm in my late 20's and most of the people in my age bracket in the US just had or are expecting their 1st and 2nd child between 2020 - 2022. I just don't believe people who talk about the dropping birthrate in the west or whatever.
Not to be that nihilistic person, but I literally don't see the benefit of children in the modern era. My ancestors had plenty, more kids = bigger/reliable tribe = my ancestor’s safety (still pointless but there's still the incentive). Sure, we need kids for the continuation of the species, but again how does that benefit ME exactly? I'll be worm food in a couple of decades, unless I figure out how to transfer my consciousness into a robot or what have you. So, it won't matter what state the population is in, I'll quite literally be dead or minding business doing cool robot things and hopefully not paying any taxes. Why should I cripple myself to produce more lambs for the patriarchal/governmental slaughterhouse? If people want women to have more children... Here's a hot take.... Give them a reason to. Because right now it seems society is running on women's good will, that's bound to run dry eventually.
I fully agree with you, SaltyFry ;)You're right there really is no benefit to children in our current global state. Like the podmistresses said, we are already overpopulated as is.The issue is the double whammy of instinct (species continuation) and culture (pressure to pass down the family name / genes, free labor for developing nations, or literally political / socio economic tool to out-populate enemies) is hard to override. In nature overpopulation is taken care of - more food for predators, sickness, food shortage. Humans have overridden nature 10fold with technology and dominating the food chain. If it threatens us, we obliterate it. I have a lot of theories as to why when a society becomes super advanced (and women are given more autonomy) that birth rates and desire to have children slows. That's it's own can of worms, though. The point is. I agree fully. We don't need more people. It's just the rich doing everything they can to carry on their greed and make sure there's an abundance of slaves so they can stay comfortable.

They're not going to give a reason to have kids, they'd rather give a penalty for not having them
I'm just now listening to this episode and want to respond to the take that Roe was overturned at the same time the birth rate is in sharp decline. I worked in local government in the US and sat in high level meetings once a month (unrelated to my actual job but required still) listening to the government freak out about the birth rate being in decline. They went on and on about how this was going to hurt the tax base, the pool of available workers, businesses and how everything would have to shrink to accommodate this. They are right, it will have these impacts. Yes it's concerning, especially when the majority of the population will be old and depending on the smaller, younger adults to do everything. But instead of doing something constructive and sensible about it, they go full draconian stupid. I believe the powers in charge decided to turn a blind eye to the threat to roe v wade in hopes that it would bring about a quick fix rather than addressing the real problem.
People can't afford to have children. Public education has been defunded to the point of absolute dysfunction. Preschool and infant care are low quality and unaffordable. Women have no guarantee of parental leave beyond 6 weeks. Americans still lack adequate access to affordable health care. Obama care was just insurance reform and mandates, except for poverty based assistance through Medicaid. And Medicaid expansion turned out to be optional so the states that needed it the most rejected it. Housing is unaffordable and getting worse every day. Who can afford to have children? No one. Fix those problems and incentivize having children rather than forcing parenthood on women and maybe the birth rate would go up a little.
But nothing like good old patriarchal bs government they think they can force birth and tax those who don't comply. This is our world.
I knew all of this on some level even in the 80s when I began to come of age. I knew (not able to articulate it, still knew) that I could not work enough to survive — not thrive, just survive — and have a child. I would have had to have been dependent on a man and that wasn’t happening. Bad enough to have been dependent on first LV husband in grad school for a couple of years! We need a discussion on capitalism and motherhood and women’s careers.

Paywall :(
They are against taxes almost every other time, except when they want to watch someone else suffer.
