can we also mention not getting paid for meetings? WTF? especially meetings where i am being told iām not working hard enough, or that the speciality position i was originally hired for has been outsourced.
This! Lunch meetings (and any other way to make you spend your break time thinking about work) should be outlawed. I don't care if you are providing catering (and most don't), I don't want to spend my only break during the day working or talking about work! I don't care if it's "the only time everyone is free". And you bet it's not counted as working hours.
And let's also get rid of that stupid pressure to have lunch with your colleagues in the break room so you won't appear "unsociable".
Love these job-oriented podcasts! I'm a first-generation white collar workers, so I never had a mentor or adult to guide me. Looking back I was such a job-pickmeshia!
It's insane how many companies are headed by boomers with no college education, but they expect top tier applicants for their entry level positions. Boomers truly have no idea the competition that young people face in the workforce today. Many of the high-level people at my job do not have college degrees, they were just lucky enough to start working there decades ago when it didn't matter, and now they're experts in their field. I'm all for that - but where is that opportunity now?

Thank you ladies! What a strategic perspective šŖšššš¾
I just saw a job ad that required an individually written cover letter, a motivational letter (of at least two pages) and a fucking ESSAY (of at least three pages) about the company's goals in the application (in addition to the normal stuff like CV, references, certificates etc.). It was not a great job, an interesting company or even well paid. They want applicants to waste all that time writing the two letters and an ESSAY for some random HR guy to take one glance at it and then delete 95% of the applications without a reply. The sheer entitlement is insane.
Also: what's up with demanding graduate degrees for entry level office jobs that barely pay over minimum wage, that a trained monkey could do and that were done by people with high school diplomas for the last few decades without a problem? And then whining about not having enough qualified applicants?
Another one: Don't you all love it if you apply for a job and then hear absolutely nothing for 3 months until you suddenly get an email inviting you to an interview that is scheduled in two days on the other side of the country? Because every applicant is ready and willing to hope and pray for 3 months without a word from you and can then jump on a flight at a moment's notice to get to you.
Thank you!!!!!! I've been trying to find another job for 3 years now. It's ridiculous what employers are asking. If I see a job that requires a cover letter forget it. Also, are employers so lazy that they don't want to train anymore? They're not going to find unicorns.
Yep. Some even give a heads up that they'll be doing technical interviews for a maximum of X hours but charge their standard hourly rate for anything beyond that. Incentivizes employers to keep the interviews short. In my country, coming in to work for a day before getting an offer is also quite common, and I have done it a few times. It's not a bad idea, because you can assess the overall fit before you decide to commit, BUT these work days are always unpaid. I've decided I'm not going to do them without pay anymore. It's ridiculous that people treat you like an intern even when you have previous experience.
There are many parallels of capitalism and patriarchy
