Suggestion for one of the lies to be about how, when it comes to shitty behaviour in men, few of them are innocent victims in some “narrative out of their control.”
It falls into a lot of categories but most dangerously in the way Lundy Bancroft describes abusive men in couples counselling. When a man says he “flew into a rage“ and ”couldn’t help but slap his wife,” Bancroft questions why he only slaps his wife. Why not kick her? Why not punch her? The abusive men admit doing so would be going “too far.” He knows what he can get away with. To him this is a calculated reaction.
Even when he isn’t obviously abusive I see so many women (including myself in the past) finding excuses for shitty behaviour in men and telling my friends and family, “he just doesn’t know better,“ and, “he can learn.”
The problem isn’t that he doesn’t know; he does. He one hundred percent knows what he’s doing and he’ll keep doing it as long as he can get away with it.
