A few months ago I cut my low value friends out of my life and I've never been happier (it's crazy just how much mental energy you get back when you no longer have to deal with their b.s.).
For years I knew this friendship wasn't working out deep down, but I kept the friendship going because at the time they were my closest friends and constantly tried to just look at the good.
But the clincher for me was when I asked myself, "Imagine the guy you could see them dating/ marrying one day. Would that be a guy you would feel comfortable having around your kids?"
And that answer was a huge NOPE!
(I was trying to think of a question for my childfree ladies. This was the best I could come up with so far: "Imagine the guy you could see them dating/ marrying one day. Would you be comfortable going on vacation with him and your friend?")
The vacation example is definitely valid. It's never happened to me but after hearing horror stories from someone who keeps pickme friends, it's as frustrating as you can imagine.
On a more extreme note, I'll never forget the story that broke a little over two weeks about a GROOM that SA'd a bridesmaid right before his wedding in 2019 during a group trip. The bride found him as he was assaulting the bridesmaid. She went on to marry him anyway and defended him. He finally got sentenced to jail this year.
