Not just fat guys. Men really need more calories than women because they have more muscle mass. Therefore, 50-50 is inherently flawed when it comes to food. Add to that that the average man tends to want more expensive items (large portions of meat every day, snacks, alcohol...) than the average woman it becomes even more unfair.

It's also cultural. In traditional societes and even in more modern ones not too long ago men and boys were served first and get more and better food while the women and girls get what's left. Girls are shamed if they eat a lot (hello eating disorders and fatshaming ...) while boys get "Let the boy eat as much as he wants! He needs to grow!". And even in a positive, health related sense boys are not expected to control their eating as much as girls are. And those boys grow up.

Yeah, in my culture (Indian) the boys often are fed more and given better quality food in general. My parents boasted about giving me and my brother getting the same food like they were doing me a favour of some kind.

Even in my culture (a supposedly modern, central European one) the order in which people are served or serve themselves at the table reflects that. When I was little and we were having a bigger dinner at the grandparents' house (like a Christmas dinner) the order went: Adult male guests in order of importance - male head of household - adult female guests in order of importance - other adult males in the household - male children - adult female members of the household - female children - Female head of the household (who does the serving and traditionally serves herself last). You can probably guess that the most popular side dishes or best cuts of meat would be gone by the time it's your turn if you are near the end of that order. It's pure sexism but rooted so deeply in our culture that most people don't even realize it or know why it's done that way anymore.

Yeah to be honest maybe I am a bit classist? Like I grew up lower middle class. Would be middle class on my own but more upper middle class because of my fiance. I dont know I just wanted want to date down especially after bringing myself up. That being said I wouldn't date an uber wealthy guy that comes from family money either because I don't feel like he would ever be able to understand me.

It’s so strange. I have some cousins or mutual friends like this and their emphasize and prioritization of being seen as “fair” is something they value over anything.

They actively put down women who are willing to receive and they have to typically validate themselves out loud, constantly when it comes up, that having their bills paid “could not be them.” They genuinely take pride in contributing at 50/50 or whatever inequitable ratio they are.

For most of the women I know I truly believe it’s such a subconscious level of discomfort and insecurity in recognizing their own worth. Many have even had the man offer to cover everything and they decline on the basis of their values and denial of worth in a woman who accepts this.

They consider it “safe” because they believe that a woman accepting payment means the assets aren’t really her own. They don’t recognize that their is too much faith in a man to remain equitable and play fair if and when a split comes.

They don’t want to be seen as “relying” on a man when they miss the entire point. I’m always going to be active professionally and with my skills and education regardless of whether I am in a relationship, married, or maintaining traditional employment. They are very uncomfortable with earning or existing and not contributing, when this is also hardly the case as they don’t value their own contributions to the relationship outside of monetary value. I really believe it’s another way of pandering to the patriarchy in that they don’t even recognize their own true feelings, as they prioritize the validation from subpar men as a self proclaimed champion of eQuALiTY.
