I personally love metal (especially black), but I got to admit some pop songs from the early 2010s go very hard so for me it's very unbalanced lmao. How about you guys?
Taylor Swift! I can't wait to see her concert movie next Friday

I mostly like techno (acid, industrial), dark psytrance, rock, metal, british new wave and 80s music..some 90s music and early 00s were massive too. I love groups like Prodigy, Faithless and so on.. I too, love music that punches me right in the chest.
Cheesy music or EDM makes me irritated.
EDIT: I just wanna add, this kind of 'hard' music helps me release almost all the repressed anger and frustration caused mostly by *patriarchy*.
I know I function with a (apparently) surprising background level of rage and as one of my best friends once said, "metal is the sandpaper that smoothes out my rough edges \m/ "
I'm basic so I like pop and rock music, but lately I listen to korean and japanese music the most.
Slight discussion, but I still cant decenter men when it comes to music. Most of my favorite artist are still male. Not something to be proud of in this community, but I wonder if it's because men have the chance to be more versatile with music. Women's most popular songs are usually about romance. Since I tried to decenter men I relate less about romance affairs but somehow it made me relate less with female artist 😓 I love motivating songs more. Also the other reason I listen to jp/kr songs is because I can't really speak those language so even if the lyrics are actually cringy there's a language barrier that helps me to let it slide lol.
Kpop girl band I like is Red Velvet. They have wonderful voice and their discography is quite variative, while most are still romance songs they also have empowering lyrics like their song "Queendom"
There's a lot more men that make it in the music industry than women, maybe that's why its so common for most of people's favorite artists to be men. I find it sad that women can't really succeed without having romance or sexuality as their main theme. Of course there's nothing wrong with these topics in themselves, but it seems to be the standard for female artists.
Fellow metal head here! I like music that punches me in the chest and brings out the emotions I suppress, and nothing does that as reliably as metal. I listen to all of it. Ayreon to Rob Zombie, but I have a special place in my heart for Nightwish. In my defense, I used to play guitar and sing in a metal band in college, it was my rebellion against the opera my family pushed me into.
I grew up on classic rock, bluegrass, and old country, not the poppy style stuff that's produced these days but stuff like Reba, Garth, and Straight. Of course, I was a teenager when the 2000s hit and some of those iconic pop songs are real bangers (I totally jam on Nsync and Backstreet Boys with no shame while I'm cleaning, I know that's technically 90s but we run about 10 years behind in this super rural area), so agree with you there.
I also really like to listen to movie scores when I need to focus, stuff like Two Steps from Hell and video game themes too. They're designed to make you focus. Favorites of mine for when I need to get shit done is either the ME3 themes or skyrim themes.
And then I do suppose I have a soft spot for opera and classical. It's way more fun to bust out the metal growl and scare the shit out of people than to go opera on them though.
The ME suicide theme makes me emotional 😭 just remembered why i was so obsessed with that game.
If you can sing the The Siren I am so jealous! you must be so talented. And being able to play piano, I am jealous. Meadows of Heaven sounds so celtic/irish, I love those types of songs by nightwish. Last of the wilds and Elan have a similar sound. Another band I know like that is Eluvetie, they're less opera and more celtic ifyou enjoy that type of thing.
I love that song by Type O Negative! havent listened to that in years. What a perfect vibe for this season you've inspired me to listen to them again! They had another song I liked from that album.
Your music taste is very similar to my ex actually, he introduced me to nightwish and liked things like two steps from hell. He also introduced me to powermetal bands like Powerwolf, Avantasia and Beast In Black (i didnt like the album covers of that band though). We both loved Sonata Arctica, you might like that band. You also might like Sirenia and Dream Threater :)
I love the ME themes, and I agree that they make me emotional too. I loved that game. A Future for the Krogan is another favorite of mine, so hopeful! Pretty much all of those game's themes are in my playlist, but the suicide mission theme is above and beyond with the orchestra.
I've been singing since I was a kid, my family thought I would end up in the industry but I left once I got a taste of what it was really like ..... so I decided to do something else with my life. But I was a growler before it was much of a thing, and I was one of the only women in the scene here so I became a target for epic levels of scrotery. Probably why I like Floor so much, she sings like I do. But I prefer playing my instruments.
I love celtic sounds in music. My mother's family is all Celts, I grew up with gaelic lullabies from her side and just love hearing that in music. Probably one of the reasons I like Nightwish so much, especially the stuff they produced once Troy became a full member of the band. Have you listened to their newest album yet? Shoemaker made me cry!
I love the drab four even though they get weird at times. Peter Steele is what I am looking for in a man, physically. As a person, not so much, but he at least liked women and respected them which is more than I can say for the majority of men I've known.
I love pretty much all the bands that you've mentioned. Music is a big part of my life still, even though I don't do much more than compose and play with family/friends anymore. If you don't already know them you'd probably love Kamelot - Ghost Opera. He's got an insane voice too, and it's very theatrical.
The cheesiness is absolutely part of the charm. It's just utter shred madness and fun as hell to play, which is why I love it. Great for workouts too! I take my friends along to metal concerts, we're all absolutely unapproachable and all but the worst of the scrotes tend to give us a wide berth.
The tin can effect you mention is hit or miss for me. Sometimes it sounds great, sometimes it's really irritating it just depends. I know all that you mentioned, love Ensiferum - In My Sword I Trust because well, the lyrics.
I love metal too, especally melodic death metal! listen to it less now and have a lot of music genres in the mix. Love some dreamy indie, 2000s pop throwbacks, anything 80s, electronic and rock. I enjoy lofi and many video game soundtracks when i want to relax.

Im a classical music nerd, but besides that I think a lot of the songs I like fall into different pop categories like bedroom pop or alt z.

Enya, sometimes Shakira. And I like celtic.
