I went to random café today and felt absolutely nostalgic since on the background the song from my teenage years was playing.
Specifically: The Way I Are - Timabland &Keri Gilson.
As many of you have guessed the lyrics and standards it sets is absolute trash!
Since, I haven't listened to my old songs for about 8-10years I started frantically recreating my teen playlist on Spotify and every single song, every damn one was problematic.
Teenage girls overwhelmingly grow up listening to pickme crap pop songs while teenage boys listen to rap that is full of mysogny. Obviously I am simplifying here but I was taken aback when I realized that none of the songs I loved taught me any meaningful lessons and instead planted the seeds of plague 'pickmeism'. I am sad that regardless of nostalgic value I will not be enjoying any one of them now or in the future.
I guess I will add playlist of a man to a vetting strategy now. Resembles the teenage standard 😂 yet I believe if man has no issue with problematic song he loved as teenager as a grown up then it can be at least a yellow flag.
I was thinking about The Way I Are the other day 😂 “I can’t even buy you flowers” Like cmon girl…
Omg the way I are - only now after discovering FDS do I think “ew what a scrote - ain’t got no money to take you on a date” 😂
Hell even my adult playlists from a few years ago have pick-me vibes, and I remember a few things bothering me but did I still listen? Yep. No more.
ngl i love sza but she does make pick me music. and summer walker
📠 Even the so-called empowering female rap is filled with libfem nonsense and like 1% male bashing (except Flo Mili and female Christian rappers)
