(Yes, another Taylor Swift thread)
All the pickmes seem to love this song.
The lyrics are frankly... terrible. How on earth do women listen to this song and then think that's relatable? It's like we find things to beat ourselves up about. All that patriarchal nonsense about dreaming of her DIL stealing her money? 🙄 Women's altruism being narcissm? It's so woman hating. I don't even believe in true altruism but women do so much for society that men will piss all over and then women subject other women's intentions to this scrutiny that men are never, ever subject to?
I like a lot of Taylor songs but what on earth?!
Edit: I've thought about this some more and reading the replies, I think Taylor just did a really good job mentioning all the things that trigger the fuck out of me. That was probably her intention. It's still a song I'll always skip.
I'm not really a fan of taylor swift but this youtube psychologist I follow posted this video analyzing the song and how it underlines themes of complex PTSD: https://youtu.be/Cb0a2Pl9Duo?feature=shared
I liked ' look what you made me do' but swift has a bad taste in men, maybe she deliberately dates them to always have new idea's for songs, How can she make the same mistake over and over again?
After dealing with men briefly in life I got so sick and tired of them that I made a rule, disrespect, neglect, tardiness means get out. Men never arrive late when they'll score pussy tonight so I'm not tolerating tardiness under any circumstances ever.
Anti Hero isnt Taylor's best song, but try listening to Wouldve Couldve Should've from the Midnights bonus tracks. She chews out John Mayer for grooming her and dating a 19 year old when he was 32 and it's so cathartic. The bridge is the epitome of Female rage (I might make a post about the song myself)
I never liked her or her music
i like that song and i'm not a pickme. i find it relatable in the sense that she sings about feeling inadequate, beating herself up, feeling guilty, like a villain, and hated by all. trying to fit in unsuccessfully. many people eel that way, especially women, since people place high expectations upon us. i don't think it's woman-hating. taylor has talked about how this album (midnights) is about things that keep her awakewhile she spirals into dark thoughts.
I think she's self-deprecating and you're looking into it a bit too much. Doesn't seem anti-woman. Seems... anti-Taylor... Poor woman. SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE DATED ANY OF HER EXES AND SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE MIC BACK THAT ONE TIME.
I don't listen to Taylor Swift, not because I don't like her (I actually think she sings well, contrary to popular opinion) but because her songs/voice trigger my depression. I looked up the lyrics to this, and I'm not sure what to make of the lyrics. I relate to the "graveyard shift" thing though. I'm up at night and sleeping in the day, which makes my depression worse.
I'm looking at the lyrics and the lyrics don't seem to match what you're talking about.
The song you mentioned isn’t one of my favourites. The reason why she’s popular is that she writes music that’s relatable to every generation. Albeit now, it’s more for teens, but older women are able to listen to it because they went through it at a young age.
