While Beyoncé's smash hit "Single Ladies" highlighted the importance of women's independence, a new LendingTree study revealed that although they make less in earnings, single women now own more homes than single men throughout the U.S.
While women typically lag behind men in pay, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women’s median weekly earnings in the U.S. are only 83% of men’s.
Although women are historically less well-off financially than men, there is, in fact, a primary area in which women are likely to fare better than men: homeownership.
A LendingTree analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data revealed that single women who live by themselves are more likely than single men who live by themselves to own a home in 47 of the 50 states.
The study also found that single women own a whopping 2.71 million more homes than single men.
This doesn't surprise me! Bought my first house as a single woman last year at age 23. Most of my single gfs live alone in homes they own by themselves, too, and they're also in their 20's. The few who don't live in apartments OR live in the home they bought with their husbands/fiances. Most single dudes I've met my age still live in their parent's basement wasting their money on booze, porn, and drugs while their mother makes their food, does his laundry, and let's him basically gets to live like a teenager well into his 20's and beyond. There's no incentive for a man with a pickme mom who does everything for him to actually go and make something for himself, meanwhile we ladies know that if WE stayed at home we'd have our parents breathing down our necks and expecting US to take care of our worthless brothers as well as upkeep the house. So out we move, as we find it easier to take care of only one adult: ourselves.
And I know this from personal experience because my older brother is the basement dweller who still lives with his mommy and gladly boasted about it this Christmas. The literal words out of his mouth were, "I'm going to be a mooch until the day my mother dies. I don't care." So. Yeah. This is an entirely male issue coming from the fact SO many dudes have decided to just throw up their arms and be failures to launch. Women statistically make less, are treated worse, andare passed over for promotions YET we literally prevail! Men don't get everything handed to them on a silver platter and they crumple into failure. It's kinda laughable ngl.
