Hey Everyone,
I have been busy with life and will need to look for a new car. Unlike other aspects, I am not so picky with car models, but all I want is something reliable, affordable, common (for maintenance and ease of getting parts), and safety.
Any advice or suggestions for cars. I also got my mom looking out for me, but I am trying to keep hush with everyone else and move in silence.
Check the brands of the most stolen cars in your area.
Also Kia and Hyundai are being targeted because of a tiktok challenge
How long are you planning on keeping it? I know some people like to pay cash for new car, get a good discount and any parts problems are on the dealership. They keep the car for 2-4 years, sell it for good money and buy new one again.
I personally want to get hybrid for my next car. Electricity is cheaper here than gas, but I still want to have both options especially when going camping.
Another thing is those safety ratings are done with males in mind, so I would research a bit more on what women have to say. For example, when I'm in a passenger sit in one of the cars, they don't detect that someone is sitting there. Something to do with weigh redistribution? Especially when going uphill. It's dangerous because in case of accident the air balloon might not work.
I won't get anything other than Toyota or Lexus. They've always been great to me. I have a Prius now, and it's awesome, but a hybrid doesn't make sense for me. Hybrids are mainly for city driving. At highway speeds they run strictly on gas. Since the majority of my driving is a long commute to work, and hybrids are generally at least $3,000 more, the gas savings wouldn't even things out. Also, hybrid batteries need to be replaced and that can be very expensive. I had to replace the one in my Prius and it was around $3,000. There's also an issue with hybrid catalytic converters being a target for theft. Right now I'm eyeing a brand new Toyota Corolla, but if I could afford it, I'd go for a Toyota Camry or Lexus instead. They're more spacious, accelerate better, and are just better overall, from what I understand.
As much (honda) accord as you can afford - we have 2 in the family and the parts are EVERYWHERE.
Go for a car that has easily accessible parts in case of repairs- Toyota has become less competitive as other brands have adopted this strategy.
Also consider the style that will benefit you most frequently. Jeeps are fantastic but how often are you gonna go off roading or car camping in relation to your daily commute or highway road trips? A sedan is just as useful for car camping (more room than you think) and it gets better gas mileage and is more maneuverable in everyday driving. The practical life isn't the flashiest life 🤷♀️
I've always liked Kias

I've had good luck with the VW Jetta. The ones I drove were always reliable and affordable (I had very reasonable lease payments). Personally, I try to avoid cars that are "flashy" due to the risk of carjackings, getting followed home, etc. I've heard positive things about Toyota and Honda.
I have a Toyota model and year that has the least part recalls per year. I think you should google that and see what comes up that fits your needs.
I’ve always been able to get by fine with a Toyota specifically a Camery or Lexus. I know their Priuses run great too
