This year was a great one for the stock market and whew boy did I cash out. Ngl VTI is thrown around by finance boys but it carried me this year. I have a very risky portfolio with 95% stocks and only 5% bonds, but ladies if you’re young then be risky! Risk pays off when it comes to investments! It’s never been easier to open and have an investment account so go try it for yourself.
Financial independence is freedom for women. It’s not enough to put your money away into a high yield savings account (hysa). Do NOT sleep on in investing your money. If you need help to figure out how to open a brokerage account, roth ira, health savings account (HSA), 401k, or any kind of investment account then check out NerdWallet. They have detailed guides. Even just investing $50 a month will leave you in a better position in 30 years than not investing.
Agreed! I started my FemmeFIRE journey in 2020 when I invested my severance after a layoff. I have VTI, VXUS, and BND in my Roth IRA. I also have my HSA backed by Fidelity and a wealth account via M1 for fun personal picks. My money weighted rate of return was 34.26%. My goal for 2025 is to learn more about trading and I used chatGPT to create a learning plan for me.
A man is not a retirement plan. Women who are single need to focus on getting their money up.
Absolutely. Details and your plan may (and should!) vary depending on where you live, but never ever do nothing. Money means freedom and independence. Especially for women.
First build up an emergency fund to cover situations where you need money immediately (so you don't have to sell from your portfolio at a loss when it comes to it) and invest the rest. Even a little helps if you do it consistently and it will add up over the years. I have a pretty low risk portfolio of ETFs and even with that my rate of return is around 30% right now.
Also, I just want to add, do not EVER tell a man how much money you have in retirement accounts or personal brokerage accounts OR HYSA’s…obviously get the details from him and make sure he’s investing his money wisely if you’re considering to date him but he shouldn’t know just how financially savvy you are. Just tell him you save money.
I started in investing 3 years ago and I'm already so happy with the progress I've made. I also made some calculations and I want to see if I can even make it to a million in 40 years if I just put enough money into my ETF savings plan on a regular basis. I invest into the MSCI World as well as the S&P 500. First I want to reach my first 100.000€ before I turn 35 though (I'm 28 now).
I've given some thought to my goals and priorities in life recently and I get so excited about the idea of having a lot of money because to me, it symbolizes freedom as well as security.
Good for you!! Love this post and women need to start taking their financial future more seriously. If only I could go back to my 20s and start my investing journey from there!
I currently have a Roth IRA with 70% VTI and 30% VXUS. VTI is my big money maker, it’s what I tell all the women to research putting money into. I have a little bit of NVIDIA in a personal brokerage for funsies as well as FTEC and VOO. I believe theres some overlap with all my choices, but money is money 🤷♀️
I honestly wouldn’t know where to start with all this!!!
