Can we put it on the record that women are better with money than men are? Do you know any couples where the woman spends frivolously and the man is responsible and restrained with money? Because I don't.
Hollywood and everthing is full of depictions of women who are "shop-a-holics", who sneak around so their husbands dont find out about their purchases. Ask any average scrote, and he'll tell you that women are bad with money. But I just dont see it in real life. I like to read advice columns, and I've only ever seen cases where a conflict arises from a man who's careless with money and a woman who's frugal; never the other way around. (Sadly, it's usually a woman asking how she can cOmProMiSe with her irresponsible boyfriend who wants to spend her money.)
On the other hand, we all know that men are more likely to be risk takers (like, there's actually good data demonstrating that fact.) I believe men will fuck around with money in ways that women won't.
Am I right?
There are charities that donate only to women because that benefits the community and not men because men will selfishly spend it.
Yep. Men love to drop money on shit that only benefits them - games consoles, trainer/sneaker collections, going to see their favourite football team play in another country, etc. But if their girlfriend wants to buy shoes or a new handbag or take a girls' trip, she's 'selfish' and 'can't manage her money' (the implication being that he should manage it for her). Also, men hate spending money on other people. I've had so many male coworkers, friends or family members ask me to pay them back for something trivial, like a £5 coffee. Or I ordered something more expensive than they were expecting at a restaurant, and they repeatedly complained about the price afterwards. A woman has never done that to me - we actually like to use money positively to treat each other.
I've observed that, too. Just in my family, my dad lost a whole bunch of his retirement savings in the stock market. Before that happened, my mom socked away some money and invested in safe things like mutual funds. Her financial prudence is the only reason my parents are doing okay in retirement right now.
I have to give some credit to Julian Fellowes for his tendency to write stories where it's the male characters who are stupid with money in catastrophic ways. The female characters might buy pretty dresses, but they don't do stuff that can wreck their family's entire financial future.
My ex husband made more money than me but nearly financially ruined me. The only reason he didn’t is because I divorced him before it could get any worse.
Poor impulse control, fried dopamine receptors. He’d just impulsively buy things for a dopamine hit. We’d have a fridge full of groceries and he’d still eat take out.
Men don’t care about impressing women with money nearly as much as they care about impressing other men. It’s like a dick measuring contest. My ex blew all his money on cars and toys he couldn’t afford to come off as a big shot to his friends. Meanwhile he was broke as a joke.
I don't know, it's a pretty big generalization based on anecdotal evidence & some bias confirmation. I think it shows more integrity to base generalizations on real data.
