If you use Reddit, you should understand that it's using you to make money and to make the world a worse place.
Reddit is NOT a social media site.
Its user data acquisition, AI targeting marketing, and control of whatever narrative someone pays to manipulate, usually social conditioning or political, sometimes PR damage control.
Spending time on reddit is undermining your mental health and so, your physical health.
It's designed to keep you engaged by any means necessary , to increase shareholders value. You are being used and manipulated. Reddit is bad for your mental health. I'll fight for your right to use it, but if you do use reddit, you should be aware of what the site takes from you and why you immediately feel angry when you go there.
Don't give your attention to this unworthy cesspool. Your emotions of outrage are being leveraged against you, to make you consume more time on reddit and spread reddit to other sites. Reddit is an publicly traded company and the law state that as such, the company is legally obligated to increase shareholders value. The following is a few sources that illustrate why you shouldn't waste another minute of your life there.
To finish with a positive, the best way to destroy something like reddit is to build something better. We are doing that here.
Or start something new, but don't accept less than what you deserve!

I get somewhat irked when people post/link a story to subreddit.
FDS left reddit bc the entire site is anti-woman to the extreme. FDS members and mods were ruthlessly harassed. It's why we as a group left that hellhole.
GTF OFF Reddit. Stop ligning the pockets of a misogynistic scrote-supporting site/app.
Social media in general is just cancer. They ruin your mental health (and are designed to be extremely addictive) and consantly invade your privacy by selling your information to god knows who. My wellbeing has improved tremendously when I deleted instagram, reddit and whatnot. Tiktok is the worst of all of them, I advice everyone to get rid of it. I have so much more time now that I only use youtube and fds, no unnecessary bull to overstimulate my brain with.
Thank you for this. Reddit and Twitter/X were detrimental to my mental state the past few years, especially with all the Redpill content getting so popular. I do think Reddit is much, much worse. Unfortunately I can’t say I’ve stopped using them 100% — I still have a bit of an addiction to it since I’m so isolated (WFH and can’t drive), but I now stay away from any subreddits dealing with gender issues or dating. This site has helped me become more aware of all the things you’ve said and it doesn’t affect me as much, although I know it’s still bad for me.
Fascinating that they created a psychopath AI using Reddit posts.
I agree. I don't recommend anyone here to use reddit to be honest. I do it to call out the scrotery but I have to keep myself from engaging with the angry responses. I keep doing it in hopes that people (esp other women) will catch on eventually, but the internet really sucks. So many pervs coming out of the woodwork to defend Ashton, for example
Great summary.
Reddit hasn't been a plucky, new website in a looooong time. It's 18 years old and has institutional investors and shareholders to answer to. Users are the last folks on the list.
Oooo this is a great post, I didn't even know this stuff before being anti-social media. I know it's about reddit but honestly they all suck and spending time on them is a value/time sucker for sure.
I totally agree but it’s not any different than any other major social media platforms. They’re all the same thing. Only difference is Reddit it run by and overpopulated with scrotes. But all social media sites are doing the same thing otherwise.
I hate it because I actually despise social media like FB, IG. Hate and will never use TikTok. Won’t even go to YouTube unless I’m seeking something very specific, and even then I’ll use a browser where I can’t be tracked. But I sure as hell don’t read comments or anything. I only still use Preddit because sometimes I actually do find things to learn there, believe it or not, and it’s an easy way to be exposed to a wide variety of news I’m interested in. I haven’t quite found another news source to replace it unfortunately but open to suggestions.
98% of Preddit content is filth though and not worth viewing, and I’ve recently decided to never comment on anything again there and scrub as much as I can from my viewable profile. In fact I ought to just delete my profile and switch to a throwaway account until I hope to leave altogether within a few months.
For anyone interested on the toxicity of social media, check out 15 Minutes of Shame documentary on HBO. It should be required watching for everyone.
Edit:
Those who are downvoting me.... okay that's fine.
But can I ask, what happens when the FDS subreddit has good advice that isn't posted on this forum and it's not in the handbook? Do I simply ignore the plethora of information because it's on Reddit? do I never go on that subreddit again? Instead of downvoting me, offer an answer or a solution. I mentioned FDS subreddit in my original post. Should we give up reading all those posts? The Handbook was last updated a few years ago. I'm fine with ditching Reddit for everything else. The links you posted were eye opening. But I can't change the fact that FDS has a subreddit and that has pages upon pages of great information that is not available (yet) here.
