I am playing hookie from work and spending some time out in the woods away from civilization. The weather is beautiful and I am thankful to be living in a blue state.
I come from one of those families who used to consider themselves democrats, but once Trump came along, they began worshipping him and preaching about God and Christianity (we were never a religious family, never went to church, etc.). I was essentially ostracized from my family in 2016 because I did not support him. I moved to NY and very rarely heard from my family since then. They visited once, but were appalled at the rainbow flags hanging around because it was in June during Pride. They will never come back.
My birthday is this weekend and I doubt I will hear from anyone in my family. I am grieving today because it's true how society really does hate women. I don't think there will ever be a female president in my lifetime. I grieve for the message it sends to little girls who aspire to be president one day.
Where do we go from here?

The last vestiges of my innocence and optimism were murdered this morning. Half of america chose a rapist as it's figurehead. My fake joy is reserved for my kids but I am definitely not ok.
This country is pathetic. We'll be the last country on earth to elect a woman to head of state.
I'm OK today though. 2016 was rough, and I guess I'm desensitized now. Also, I've been sure he was going to get elected again for the last three years. So I didn't get my hopes up. Because this country is pathetic and full of fucking morons who somehow think an unhinged, senile sociopath senserely cares about making their Iives better.

Over half of the male population either voted to take away your ability to control your body and your ability divorce a man with ease, or they simply don't care. They don't care you could be bleeding out in a parking lot while going through a miscarriage. They don't care you're being abused and being controlled by your husband. They don't care you have to work twice as hard at work only to be paid less and constantly passed over for promotions.
They simply do not care.
Do not reward these men.

Im Canadian and I’m in tears. What’s happened to the states is coming here. Our conservatives are all anti choice and watching ppl vote for a rapist made me realize how much they hate women. They’re going to do the same here.
I was pretty much fully expecting Trump to win. I knew enough women and minorities who were planning on voting for him, and others who voted third party because “bOtH sIdEs ArE BaD”.
And yet, I was still absolutely gutted when I heard the news this morning.
Best case, he’s an incompetent disgrace of a human being who doesn’t accomplish much during this term. Worst case… full on fascism, loss of democracy as we know it, and huge loss of rights for anyone who’s not a white man.
I am truly hoping that the worst case scenario doesn’t happen. I hope that this fear is unwarranted and he just remains incompetent. But how fun it is to now have to worry about these things!
I still do think that the worst case scenario is unrealistic, so I’m trying to not let all of this fear of what COULD possibly happen get to me too much, but I’ll be cautiously watching the state of our country from now on. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst I guess. And still trying to live my life in the meantime.
Let's be honest, Democrats should have chosen a better candidate and I'm saying this as a Democrat.

I also feel for many of my friends who work in education. What a terrible time to work in for the school system. Trump doesn't give a fuck about those kids.

I’m definitely an outsider because I’m Not American. But I wasn’t surprised at all that trump won. It was very obvious.
Part of the problem is I knew there was no way men were gonna vote for a woman. By how much she lost by CLEARLY there were alot of people who voted democrat 4 years ago who voted trump on Tuesday.
Also maybe this is controversial but the dems hate women too. It’s just in a different way. No matter who won women were gonna suffer.
However, they’ll suffer more under trump. If Harris won women would suffer in a different way.
As a Canadian I was hoping to see Kamala win but her loss isn’t shocking to me.
I wish everyone the best for the next 4 years and hopefully many of the policies trump wants don’t come to fruition.
This is what Bernie Sanders has to say about the Democrats losing and he is right. They deserved to lose as much as I hate to say it. If only he was the nominee in 2016.

Dems hate women. The point is that I am sick and tired of conservatives and Republicans getting 100% of the woman hating accusations when it is the Democratic party that has literally dismantled title 9 that protects women! It is the Democratic party that has been fighting to allow men into women's bathrooms and locker room. It is the Democratic party that is fighting for men to beat women in sports. Sure there are conservative men who hate women too but the Republican party is NOT trying to literally dismantle womanhood. It is the Democratic party that can't define what the word woman is but all you women keep voting for a party that is literally fighting for your extinction!
Before I moved to my current red city, I’d lived in blue cities my entire life, including (and primarily) New York.
In 2024, I’m thankful to be living in a (not overwhelmingly) red state where the streets are clean, most people are polite and orderly in public, and WASP culture reigns quietly.
In my current city, illegal immigrants do not burden the taxpayers. Homeless people are not beating up regular people in the street. Muslim men are not gang raping local girls. Asian women are not being punched on the subway for “spreading COVID”. And if a violent drug addict gets in your face, you can call the police, who will at least show up to defend you instead of telling you politely to go fuck yourself or throwing up their hands in helplessness (as they do in all the blue cities I’ve lived). I’m not saying my current city is perfect by any means, but it is safer than any blue city I’ve seen, and that’s something I can’t overlook.
I’m not a Republican or a fan of Trump as a person, but there is a lot to be said for Republican law and order, for which Trump is the mascot at this point in time.
