I mean, "good men" are pressed about it. That's just rare. So it's still one large group of actively horrible scrotes, one super large group of run-of-the-mill scrotes, and a small group of men actively fighting it.
The run of the mill scrotes won't do anything about it even it if bothers them because they would still lose social standing by standing up for women against other men, so that's a harder sell (though yes, morally it should be an easy sell), and your average scrote probably doesn't feel like he has social capital to spare. And they're not at risk so they have the privilege to care less.
Also similar dynamics at play to why we aren't all protesting in the street about all the other issues in America every day - we got bills to pay and a life to live. There is a cost to "doing something about it" that the people most affected don't have the ability to pay, and the people who do have the ability to pay it often aren't all that affected.
So it comes down to men who have enough empathy to override those factors. And with what we know about men and empathy...rare.
Spot on. As a vegan, this “if you really cared, you'd do something about it!” argument always amuses me, because I know that wouldn't fly with most people who eat meat, even though they claim to love animals and will be appalled by mistreatment of them. And yes, you cannot exactly compare factory farming to female oppression but the same “I might have empathy but still push this issue away in my daily life” logic applies. And if I'd go around calling every omnivore cruel, heartless and sadistic, they'd probably not want to talk to me anymore. I agree that most men don't even have much empathy for women in the first place, but a significant part of all humans just has cognitive dissonance around the injustices in the world for the reasons you mentioned.
Also, I'd be wary of “male allies” in any case. Because of the way society is set up to congratulate them for the bare minimum, I wouldn't trust them not to take advantage of their “hero” status.
Exactly, like I'd think everyone here agrees child labor is bad, but how many people still buy clothes at stores that use it? Lots of people that's just a question of money, but lots of people could afford to buy ethically made clothes technically but don't feel like spending more. There's tons of other examples.
Not to excuse scrotes not doing anything. Just to understand.
But agree, I wouldn't trust the guys who just rant about how feminist they are. There are things that are more feasible for them to do. Friend choice may be easier than refusing to participate in the boys club at work for someone early in their career. Standing up to the boys club is more practical to do later in life with more social capital. Being a mentor to young men is also a very reasonable one (coaching a team, big brother, lead a Boy Scout troop, etc). And do that stuff without being self congratulatory about it all the time.
The one type of talking I do put stock in is talking to women about the ways men lie and manipulate. Not just like "oh yeah! Men are trash!" but explaining their tactics (like Lundy the double agent). That's actually helpful.

**All** men benefit from "women having to know their place" due to the actions of the abusive, rapist men in society.
That is really all it is. Women being afraid of men in general serves each and every one of them.
They all see themselves as somehow revolting against some kind of modern system, but they actually are the fucking system.
