I'm thinking about going out to this girls only "Galentines Day" event. You have to pay to join which is fine with since it filters out guys and weirdos. We're meeting at a pool hall dinner/bar place right by the water and I don't know what to wear. This is my first time going to this type of event. It's heavily snowing where I live and it's going to be cold near the water.
My good outfits always make look like Amy Fowler from The Big Bang Theory and idk how to make it less "librarian" and frumpy. I usually wear thermal tights, a turtle neck, and a checkered skirt in the winter. On their other hand, sometimes, I get infantilized because I'm petite.
I have thick rimmed glasses but I'll be ditching them for contacts. My hair is combed straight after showering, but that's all I ever do. I suppose I can curl it for that event, or atleast blow dry it straight.
FDS please give me outfit ideas. I can spare 1-2 hours going home to get ready after work on a Friday night. I figured I'll stay until 10-11 and leave. The clothes I wear always end up making me look like Amy Fowler, or a child. I don't want to wear anything revealing since I'll be going alone. I want to stay warm for the winter.
Should I wear something v-day themed? The event is happening a few days before actual v-day.
Also, idk how to play pool, it's my first time, but I like these girls and I just want to hangout with them. I heard the food is good too.
I'm not really nervous about seeing these girls, but more of how to dress and what to expect.
If you feel it would be fun to be on theme, this would be a good time to wear something pink, red, have hearts on it, or anything like that. I personally love dressing with a theme 😄
Don't discount librarian-chic, though! Embrace the dark academia aesthetic if you've got it! It's so stylish - there's something so classic about checks, tweed and sweaters, and so cozy, too. That would go great with a pool hall setting.
Sometimes I wish I have more of that in my closet, but I gravitate towards bright colours and kitshy prints 😆
I'm embracing my glasses more these days. It's getting to a point I like my face with glasses more than without glasses. Contacts are so uncomfortable. If you like contacts, wear them! But I don't think you have to ditch glasses in order to look good. I've gotten plenty of compliments on what I'm wearing, and my glasses complete the look.
Chica, if you look like Amy Fowler embrace it! Going there as yourself to make friends is the whole point of Galentines. I'd personally say wearing a long-sleeve dress, quality leather boots, and either a leather or faux fur trench would be good. You'll be warm and look chic for the party. Here are some examples: https://m.junebridals.com/elegant-long-sleeve-dresses.html
If you aren't interested in that then how about layers? Layer a long-sleeve turtle neck under a spaghetti strap dress, your thermals, knee high boots or cute booties and a good winter coat should be cute, warm, and more your style.
As for your hair, styling it curly isn't necessary if you don't want to but it might be more fun for you? I'd say blow drying it just to make sure it doesn't freeze immediately when you step outside is smart. I took my dog out after my shower a few days ago and my entire head was frozen to the point some of my hair broke off. So. Gotta be careful out there. I think an updo is always cute, but it really doesn't make or break the outfit so do whatever you want. :)
