I hope this post isn't too controversial. I have a couple of white bras that I got recently because the weather is going to be in the upper 90s in the foreseeable future, and if white does the best job at keeping out heat, then so be it, but people get all puffed up if they can sense a white bra under a shirt. White apparently is more visible under certain colored shirts, than are nude or black bras. I have nude/black bras too but I'd like to have one more practical color. I'm more worried about the color of the band getting dingy over time, honestly.
Aside from the color of the bra, I think that people get too upset over seeing bra lines under shirts or bra straps unwittingly sticking out from the shoulder of a shirt. My intent isn't to make people lust after me. It's just that...a bra is a garment, it has edges, it has straps and well, those things show at times and a part of me wished I it mattered more to me, but I think to myself, the people who get so offended by it must be watching porn at home and hence have no right to be offended. I don't know. If it's a work setting then we probably have to obey them (cringe) but other than that, I wish I cared, but I don't think I do.
I'm tired of clothing being so threadbare and poor quality that bra straps can be seen in the first place. In the early 00s and late 90s, you couldn't see bras under most cotton t-shirts, regardless of color. People would complain or return clothing back then if it was crap. Now people keep it and wear layers instead, so that's all that is produced.
I am a large breasted woman and I don't wear a bra in general. (Working out and job interviews are exceptions to this). What I have found is that after the initial couple of weeks when my muscles were readjusting, my back pain decreased. So I am going out and about in my daily life with my large boobs jiggling about.
Most people don't care. A lot of the judgement is internalised, and yes, some people will care. They have always been rubbish people though whose opinions I don't care for.
It's not quite the same as your problem, but I think the underlying issue of woman's bodily autonomy is the same.
I do live in Britain, so perhaps the culture is different where you are?
I stopped wearing bras years ago literally because I got fed up with the puzzle of picking out the right bra for the shirt. Now I only have to worry about my nipples showing through LOL! No, you will NOT find a white shirt in my wardrobe.
Do whatever you want. You're right on all accounts. People need to mind their own business and stop worrying about other people's underwear. I would suggest, however, that buying better quality shirts that arent so shear will improve your life. Never again will I buy some fast fashion crap t-shirt that's so shear I have to wear a tank underneath. Nice try getting me to buy 2 things when I only needed one, capitalists!
I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people won’t care about bra straps or seeing your bra.
the people that will say something or care aren’t many and it’s their problem and not yours.
I have large breasts. I hate it sometimes but it also makes it hard to find a good bra. So I don’t have a lot of options. So I just make do. Idc about if my straps or you can see the bra. Everyone knows I’m wearing one. So it doesn’t matter too much to me.
This is a very "damned if you do, damned if you don't " kinda situation.
If the visibility of your bra strap does not compromise your safety when you are out and about then please ignore the idiots who judge you for letting it show.
I’m an Aussie and I don’t give a fuck. Most of my tops are boat necks or have one shoulder falling down and my bra straps are always on show.
Fuckers should be grateful I’m even wearing one.
But I know it’s much worse (and judgemental) in the USA.
I think that if your bra matches the clothes, or is flesh toned, people should stfu
This is such an issue so near and dear to me because I've struggled with finding the right bra since I was in my late teens to the point where I just don't wear them anymore and I hate them. If you're going to have to wear one, then who cares if you can see a strap or the outline?? I hate bras so much, I hate that bras hold boobs up to a place where they don't naturally sit. Boobs don't look like that! They all sag at least a little bit, they're not all the same width, and for anyone that doesn't know this - cup sizes range for more than just A-DD! and someone who is a 32D is not going to look the same size as a 38D. I don't wear bras anymore because figuring out my size is a pain and no stores have a quality range of sizes. I just gave up and wear bralettes, and they're so much more comfortable that I will never go back. According to r/abrathatfits sizing, I'm a 32F, and I'm in the market for a good quality sports bra that's high impact but I can breathe, and finding the right size for me is not working out because of the garbage sizing in stores. I don't even think my boobs or my band size are uncommon.
