This is disgusting. I feel for this poor woman and her grieving family.
I’m 50 and I regularly travel solo, so I don’t really blame this woman for what happened. Women should be able to go wherever we want, and not be afraid for our lives.
While I agree with the advice below not to fly to meet a man, victim-blaming is not productive. Men are dangerous and I fully lay the blame at their feet. They are not to be trusted. Yet women should have the freedom to travel without fear.
Never fly to see a man not In a different city not In. A different state , country and certainly not in a different continent . Remenber that young girl being killed who flew from Canada to uk to see her online bf
Never travel to a strange place to see a person you met online. Never. Not even if it seems to be a woman or couple (catfishing exists). Especially not alone.
Being alone in a strange place with nobody nearby to call for help and to immediately notice you are gone makes you the perfect victim for every kind of predator and criminal there is.
This is also why you never tell anyone that you are travelling alone. What you are telling them is "Nobody will miss me if I don't come home tonight" and "I have nobody here I can call to come to my aid" and worst case "I don't speak the local language, don't know my way around, don't know the laws and customs and have nobody to help me out if I need help regarding that". You might as well wear a "perfect victim" sign around your neck.

Don't fly to see a man.
He was probably counting on her not having the support system that she actually had and no one would miss her.
However, as days passed without any further communication from Arellano, her niece posted on Twitter in an attempt to track her down.
Despite everything about twitter, it was still an important piece of social media.
