What I love most about this is that I get to see, and other people see, what an adult woman's face looks like. Hallelujah!! No she's not sick!
I feel there is so much unpaid labor in the beauty of women. The beauty industry generally lowers women and girls self-esteem as they spend money, energy, and time buying and using different products. All of which (time, energy, money) could be invested in health and skills for a woman's future which would actually enhance her self-confidence. Not to mention -- this fight to stay youthful is literally trying to go against physics. It's a losing battle for most people - so aging women are left with crappy feeling that they don't look as young as they could or should. And then there's so many industries that make money OFF of beautiful women, and those women don't make nearly as much money off it as they should. Rant over.
From the article -
"According to Anderson, her makeup-free status — which has gathered a lot of attention in recent weeks — is a less of a statement and more of an “experiment”; it's a way for her to be "a little bit rebellious" in such a public, camera-heavy event like Paris Fashion Week. It's also part of her current attitude toward aging and loving herself for exactly who she is. "You have to challenge beauty sometimes. If we all chase youth or our idea of what beauty is ... we're only going to be disappointed and maybe a little bit sad," she explains. Anderson did question her decision at first, but then she decided to roll with it. “I'm just being me, who I am, in all these great clothes running around Paris. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my own skin.”
I love your phrasing of this - the unpaid labour of beauty. I personally think that money can be saved by women, especially young women, and invested in their future - same for the time we are expected to spend, daily.
I loved her book! She honestly seems like she’d be soooo fun to hang out with. FWIW I love her sans makeup too!
I'm experimenting in this direction myself. This month, for the first time in 30 years, I haven't put a colour on my hair. I'm curious to see what colour my natural hair is nowadays - my mum had gorgeous white hair and (what's left of) my brother's hair is white too. I figure I can always colour it again if I hate it.
She looked amazing!
She looks absolutely gorgeous in those photos ❤️
