Tbh I don't even get a particularly good feeling now when I think of "liberal" politics, and I'm a woman in my mid twenties. My initial thoughts are of people who want to legalise and regulate prostitution, brothels and pimps, and people who say men can be women and should be able to go into female spaces whenever they feel like it. This is a huge change from how I saw left-wing politics less than ten years ago.
In fact, I still feel a distinction between the meanings of "liberal" and with "left-wing", the latter of which I would associate with socialism. That's more to do with economic policies, a strong social safety net, public investment in education and health. This stuff has gone out the window now in everyday discussions and largely in mainstream media. The phrases "liberal" and "conservative" now seem to be entirely tied to identity politics, in fact this seems to be the focus of almost all political conversations. It wasn't like that ten years ago at all.
The media's buzzwords really give you an idea about what they're trying to accomplish, which is to divide and conquer. It's not liberals vs conservatives, it's we the people vs the powers and the more we let them trauma program us through the media (news or otherwise) the worse it gets.
