I'm having a gender reveal party as a single mother by choice just because I want to have a party to celebrate my pregnancy & baby. It's a fun way to reveal the gender too. When you're pregnant the sex of the baby is really the only thing that you know about them that you can reveal. I don't really see the harm- although those cakes / decorations that reinforce gender stereotypes are awful (eg. trucks or tutus). The colour is enough! Can't have a baby shower as this is my 2nd baby (also don't really need the gifts). If I wasn't having a gender reveal party I would just have a non-specific maternity party. It was also a way to reveal to a lot of not close family and friends that I am actually having a baby lol.
I think the pushback is because the gender reveal trend has gotten ridiculous with people trying to outdo each other. Now people are using explosives with pink or blue smoke, and setting forests on fire.
Have heard about those online but never seen one in real life, yeah agree that's pretty wild 😬

I use to be one of those ppl who was like "Omg gender reveal parties are so stupid🤬! You should just be happy your baby is healthy!". However, throughout the years, I have changed my mind about them!?! I know crazy right lol?
I met a woman who went through 3 IVF treatments (miscarried twice) and ten years later she finally got her baby girl😩. I thought about her experience a lot.
A part of me felt guilty for always trash-talking gender reveal parties and baby showers lol. I felt awful about myself. At the time I never really thought about how my words may have affected on women who have a hard time conceiving etc.
Now, whenever I hear people talk about gender reveal parties I tend to bite my tongue. You just never know what a family is going through to conceive that child.
Tbh, I don't see the harm. Worst case scenario it enforces PINKS FUR GURLS!!! Or what have you, but that will more so depend on whether the parents are sane, healthy and rational adults. I'd personally go for the cake, like a duck shaped cake?? Uh, yes please?! At least.... I hope the guests get cake.

My view is a little controversial but idc about them. It's not like the baby can see the pink and blue.
