Reddit is generally exhausting and sexist. I’m now understanding why FDS stepped away from Reddit.
I made posts recently taking about internalized misogyny on two subs that were supposed to be female friendly / criticism about misogyny is meant to be welcome. A lot of what I received was gaslighting and anger from people who insist that a character saying, "most girls are idiots" is not an example of a young girl with internalized misogyny.
It's so disappointing, yet not surprising that even "female friendly" subs might have more people who disagree with me in regard to sexism than they agree.
Edit: a stalker/lurker on the sub made a burner account just to harass me. He said I barely got any pushback, yet failed to realize I was literally getting cussed out by some people before comments were removed.
Edit 2: the sun literally banned me for having an opinion and defending myself.
r/menwritingwomen is against women at this point.
Yes, I mentioned the 2X sub from time to time, but I grew sick and tired of people on there defending things like: (btw, things not defended on FDS)
porn
trans
"it's understandable for men to check out other women"
sex work is heroic
cohabitation
women paying for dates
OLD
Casual sex
having close friends of the opposite sex
I avoid reddit but caved as I’m now in my “career level up” stage, asking a sub on how to calculate the minimum wage and entitlements of my job position (as it’s a niche industry). I got all these condescending comments like “are you a child?” / “how could you be this dumb” and other more insulting, sexist and argumentative comments. They were highly UPVOTED yet I was downvoted to oblivion for justifying the question until someone (a woman working in HR) swooped in and actually helped me. She also didn’t know what the fuss was all about. This was a subreddit that was supposedly encourages anyone from all stages of their career/finance journey but clearly it was only for rich men (or men pretending to be rich) to gloat. Never again. Most redditors speak from their arses.
Trolls. Complete trolls.
You're not the only one. Reddit is infamous for it's extreme hatred of women even on the supposed "pro-female" subreddits.
I once stumbled upon the subreddit 'men writing women' and the moment I scrolled down my eyes laid on a pinned post. And guess what was that post about..... It was a post shitting on TERFs, telling women they are not welcome on the subreddit if they were against the tranzies bullshit. Of course that post was a dumpster fire full of misogynistic comments by asshole colonist males with womnface and handmaiden pickmes shitting on women for having common fucking sense.
They banned a slew of female separatist, anti-govt/capitalist subs right before FDS split.
A lot of those female friendly subs have male mods, too.
Get off Reddit!
It feels quite discouraging and hopeless when even subreddits that were known to support female empowerment end up actually not being so much of a feminist space at all.
This is why I miss FDS subreddit. I would have posted this on there and likely not been downvoted to in comments for being a feminist. LOL . Yet this is also why I'm coming to understand now why FDS stepped off the platform to distance themselves from the bs.
I just wonder how is a young girl who grew up in a misogynistic society that said "most girls are idiots" to set herself apart from them not a potential example of internalized misogyny??
Like am I insane for suggesting Arya Stark went through a "not like other girls" phase and it wasn't healthy for her to feel like most girls are dumb instead of focusing on the way most girls are actually oppressed?
Uh, yeah. My comments are constantly being deleted by the Sephora moderators. I feel like I’m on their shit list.
Today, a commenter made a politicized remark and I commented agreeing on her stance. Whose comments gets deleted out of the two? Mine lol
I feel like Sephora moderators on Reddit may be paid since they’re censoring comments that aren’t on brand with whatever they offer or aren't open to criticism.
