Hi ladies! I’m so excited to share with you a real hangover cure that I tested out today out of impromptu desperation. Personally I think the best way to level up is to stop drinking entirely, but sometimes when you slip up and overdo it one night what can make it so much worse is then losing the whole next day to a hangover, eating greasy food and not making it to the gym or working on any of your projects because you just feel crappy. I have struggled with drinking in my twenties and have lost so many days that way. I wish I’d found this cure sooner! Also, I can promise you it’s a myth that nothing helps a hangover, and that you just have to sleep it off—I believed that until today!
This is my three-part hangover cure:
antacids
pedialyte, dorialyte or Gatorade
egg yolks or l-cysteine supplements.
Today I woke up and I could feel that familiar old hangover feeling creeping up. However I had to do a lot of traveling, including catching a flight and multiple trains, and had to stand for hours. I was desperate to not have to deal with a hangover, feeling faint or having to creep off to the bathroom to vomit every half hour.
I honestly couldn’t believe it when just a couple hours after taking this cure, my hangover disappeared into thin air! I’m used to having hangovers and I know how they go for me. I was prepared to spend the whole day miserable then just crawl into bed at 6 pm and call it a day. But mid-flight I suddenly felt almost entirely better, and like I could go about my day as usual—even go to the gym!
Next step for me is to be sober Sally—but I hope this discovery helps some of you ladies out next time you’re in dire straits!
edit: just wanted to add the explanation for how this cure works, based on my desperate research this morning
Antacids are for the nausea—alcohol apparently strips your stomach lining which then causes you to generate an excess amount of stomach acid, which can cause that lingering all-day nausea.
Pedialyte is for rehydration and blood sugar. Dehydration apparently causes a lot of hangover symptoms and electrolytes hydrate you better/faster than plain water, and if you’re hungover your blood sugar is probably messed up, giving you that shaky feeling.
Cysteine (found in egg yolks) helps rid your body of toxins—cysteine supplements were proven in one study to help with hangovers. It’s probably why some people claim that eggs Benedict is a hangover cure by itself! (hollandaise sauce being made of egg yolks)
Feel free to correct me, but that my understanding of it!
I’m not really into drinking but I occasionally enjoy going to events at bars. I like to get one delicious cocktail (or glass of wine, or beer or whatev), then I switch to water for the rest of the night. I enjoy having a beverage to sip while socializing but I have no interest in getting inebriated and risk looking at all sloppy in front of everyone. It’s really eye opening to be the only sober person in front of a room of people drinking. Even the only “tipsy” folk start looking sloppy; it’s so inelegant. Bonus for getting super hydrated as I can easily down glass after glass of ice water while hanging out
