So I made a post on my local sub on r*ddit (bad idea in hindsight) asking if anyone knew of any local tennis coaches who would be would be offering lessons this year.
I added to my post that i‘m only looking for a female coach, as I’m female myself and uncomfortable around men I don’t know.
I’m honestly not surprised but my post was downvoted, I only received one helpful comment and the rest are calling me discriminatory because of my female only preference for a coach, there were a few comments asking if I would be okay with someone who is non binary but I have a feeling they’re not planning to offer any lessons, they’re just gauging my scale of political correctness.
In conclusion, I am having zero luck looking for a female coach, and people seem to get offended that I’m looking for female only lol
yes, how discriminatory.
yet no one bats an eyelash (i mean, we do) at all of the ads posted by rapists, i mean men, looking for young female tenants or even men who prefer female
massage therapists.
while it’s ridiculous, it’s also Preddit, so it doesn’t surprise me. yet another way in which women are silenced by the patriarchy for having preferences or being people who pay attention to trends in male violence.
I hate how hard this is. I had a really great male PT who asked permission to touch me every time he pushed a shoulder back or similar but it was still a hassle. I’m doing barre classes now and have a female teacher and it’s so much easier as she walks up the line pulling an ankle or pushing a hip.
It shouldn’t be a thing to want a female coach.
I always think word of mouth gets the best results. You could contact the local leisure centre or tennis centre and ask for a recommendation, or put the question to a local group on facebook. I believe Fb had an older demographic than Crappit does, so they will be less sensitive in general.
