Hey everyone,
I hope this is okay despite not being strictly dating related but there are so many fit and healthy ladies here that I just want to try my luck.
I am working on leveling up my breakfast at the moment (which is boring, unsatisfying and often a little unhealthy right now) and got a blender because I love smoothies but I am sooo uncreative and the smoothies I end up with are either tasty sugar bombs (the banana based ones), are not filling enough so I get hungry an hour after drinking them (happened with all "green" smoothies I tried) or were just... not that great. I know there are thousands of recipes out there, but I can't try them all myself so I would love to hear some recommendations or recipes you tried and loved!
My criteria:
- filling enough to let me survive until lunch without starving, but not a calorie or sugar bomb
- decent nutritional value regarding fiber, protein, vitamins etc.
- no milk or plant-based milk alternatives as ingredients (yoghurt, coconut milk, juice, water, tea etc. are fine)
- the result is not too sour (I can't really stand that in the morning) or super-sweet
- can either be prepared in advance (like pre-cutting and freezing everything in bags and just tossing them in the blender in the morning) or has a very short prep time
I found that smoothies do not work to keep me full because the liquid just moves through the digestive tract too quickly. And I've tried them with ridiculous amounts of fiber and protein. So in the end I just accepted I had to eat more solid foods for breakfast. I like a variety of porridges (sweet and savory), yogurt with various toppings, oat-based cookies or muffins I make myself (sometimes adding protein powder), or just a smoothie bowl with some toppings as opposed to a purely liquid smoothie. For added fiber I like psyllium husk. I also find that breakfast can't be too sweet or else it will increase my appetite even if I ate enough. I usually prefer a savory breakfast and sometimes I even eat something like rice with tofu scramble (scrambled eggs if not vegan) or khichdi (spiced rice and lentils). For sweet breakfasts, I add slightly tart fruit like raspberries or passionfruit, and something like nut butters to increase the fat content (= food stays in the stomach longer).
I don't know if this fits in with a "smoothie" category, but I make this hidden veggie chocolate pudding I really like. And it's SO filling, I could eat it for a meal and I am full for hours. Hear me out, it sounds weird and healthy, but the chocolate masks the health and if it's too dark a chocolate, I found just a small dollop of bailies makes it sweeter and makes it taste SO indulgent.
It's as follows: one boiled and mashed up sweet potato, one avocado, two tablespoons cocoa powder, half a cup of melted dark chocolate, two tablespoons maple syrup, mix it all up in a blender.
You should be left with a mousse like consistency, sweeten it up with more maple if you're not such a fan of dark chocolate, but this will make it less healthy.
I realize this doesnt really fit youre criteria, but just for ideas, I make really simple smoothies with a banana, a half cup of berries, and 3/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt. I dont add ice or any liquid (unless it comes out too thick, then I'll add a little water), because I want it to be filling, not watery. Using sweeter berries (e.g. strawberries and blueberries instead of raspberries which tend to be tart) makes a sweeter smoothie without having to add sugar. I use frozen fruit, so I'll put my fruit in the blender cup and put that in the fridge at night, so that in the morning it's thawed. Then I just have to add the yogurt and blend.
Unpopular opinion, but I think Greek yogurt in a smoothie is a waste of money. The thing that's nice about Greek yogurt vs regular yogurt is the creamy texture. But that texture doesn't really make a difference when mixing it into a smoothie, or most recipes really.
Adding protein powder is a great way to make it filling (I get vanilla and I can add coco powder if I want to make it chocolate). I like to use vanilla soy milk as my sweetener, that and the protein powder I never have to add any sugar to my smoothies. And the soy milk adds creaminess so I can get an 'ice cream smoothie' affect without using ice cream.
And adding chia seeds will make it filling and turn it to pudding, so if you have leftover smoothie you can stir in some chia seeds to the leftover but and have chia seed pudding for dessert at lunch
Kind of a "smoothie"- I have this every morning: one frozen banana with unsweetened cocoa powder, honey, cold brew coffee, soy milk and 2 scoops of powdered egg (I don't trust protein powders as they're not regulated do you don't know what you're really getting, and most of the ingredients lists contain way too many artificial ingredients to my liking).
Every weekday morning the last thing I do before I leave the house is fix my breakfast smoothie.
I like to use coconut milk as my liquid as I don't eat anything soy, dairy and I don't agree, and I'm not fond of the twang of almond milk. I always add a handful of spinach to every smoothie, since you rarely can taste that unless you overload it. Bananas are usually the base of my smoothies (I hate the taste and texture of a banana so this is how I sneak them into my diet). As for sugars, I don't worry about the content of most fruits since that's a natural sugar and not a processed poison/drug. I do try to balance out my smoothies so they're mostly healthy and not all fruit. I LOVE to add fresh herbs from my hydroponic tower to my smoothies as well (parsley or cilantro in a green goddess smoothie, mint & rosemary in an apple and lemon or pineapple cranberry one). Avocados or a boiled egg (sounds gross but if you blend well enough you aren't going to notice it) is my favorite method of making them filling and last. I stay away from protein powders as they usually have a lot of sugar or an insanely long and chemical-y ingredient list, nor are they regulated as they should be.
I also don't drink coffee, but I do fix a hot cup of this stuff every morning as my wake-up call. It's pretty good, and I bet you could find a way to make a coffee smoothie with it! My mom says maple syrup is better than honey as a sweetener for it.
I love avocado smoothies, I lived on those when I had my wisdom tooth out. Mine has soy milk, but I'm sure you can substitute another liquid and it would work just fine.
If you want some sweetness, add as much maple syrup or honey as you need to for it to taste good to you. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I don't add sweetener.
I always have this stuff called Omega3Nutracleanse on hand and often throw some in to help thicken when I'm making beverages or sauces. Somebody else mentioned psyllium husk - it's made of that, plus four other natural ingredients like flax for the protein. I find it more filling than just psyllium husk alone, and also helps digestion.
Matcha is my favourite thing ever, so I would add that, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.
Try some frozen blueberries from Aldi, avocado (makes it smoother), and some frozen spinach. Water can help with making it smoother if you don't wanna add yogurt or other milk based products 💖💖 my fav though is a banana smoothie with 5 frozen bananas, two tbsp peanut butter, dash of honey, 2 cups milk 🥛 and dash of cinnamon.
i always add a handful of spinach to every smoothie i make since its good for you, doesnt taste like anything in a smoothie and has a good amount of fiber, as for sweetener i use monk fruit (no artificials). for example today i had one with 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 glass of cold water, 1/2 cup of blueberries, spinach, & 1 packet of monk fruit sweetener...
i would say the prep time for this one is low compared to other ones i make, im not sure i would freeze this one however.
I agree with the person who said to add chia seeds! however youd have to have them expand overnight in a glass of water to make you feel full 😁
So for breakfast, I need to have protein as that is the key satiating factor. What I do is that for caffeine, I'll have a Premier Protein shake mixed with iced black coffee, it tastes absolutely delectable. Or I'll blend berries, two scoops of strawberry whey, and a cup of almond milk with spinach, delicious. I'll have that with wild caught salmon in the morning. I'm 18, so these habits are going to pay off, alongside working out in the early morning, to improve my mental health and physical wellness. I used to eat a lot of simple carbs in the morning and it just made me hungrier
My breakfast is usually sheep yoghurt (I find it the tastiest, but I suppose Greek yoghurt is cheaper), with vanilla extract (I prefer real vanilla rather than vanillin, but, again, expensive) and a sweetener (erythritol or stevia). Then I add some berries.
I don't know if this would be too sour for you.
