I'm late to the party and started randomly dipping into Season 3 and ... 😳
Gripe 1: What is this standard-shaming applied ONLY to women, who must accept short, overweight, unattractive, and/or boring-as-nails candidates? The men are rarely asked to do the same.
Gripe 2: Is she joking with these awful first matches? Dangling the bad choices before offering something more suitable?
Gripe 3: This isn't my culture but I was shocked by the bride price thing. You're telling me that men need financial incentive to take on the "burden" of a wife? It's giving laughable.
UPDATE: Holy shit, Season 1 is far more unhinged. Mothers picking "duty-bound" daughters-in-law for Failure to Launch sons? Obese men who don't want to work hoping they can change a woman's mind? I can't 🤢
I am Indian and I purely watch this show to remind myself of what I should NOT be doing...the conditioning is so pervasive and that show simply proves that. Fuck Indian Matchmaking. I'm sticking to Indian Society Bulletproofing.

What stands out to me as a Black woman is the colorism. There are no dark-skinned women on this show, as if they don’t exist and aren’t looking/worthy. It’s so fkd up.
Yes, exactly right, and I fail to see how arranged-marriage husbands can ever genuinely love the wives they didn’t even affirmatively “choose.” We at FDS know how rare it is that a man genuinely loves a woman. How men marry for convenience/proximity/to have a household servant/caterer to his laziness etc.
Arranged marriage is a recipe for unhappiness for the women. On some level, the wise ones must realize it’s a business arrangement and her husband merely tolerates her. Yikes!
On episode 3, you will see that Vakish is 💯 gay … it’s awful
Because it’s not fair to men to make them work for a woman. She should just accept men for how they are and be perfectly fine with being replaced when they find something better.
I haven't seen the third season yet but I did see the other ones - I just could not fathom how Nadia, who was super good looking and approachable and talkative and friendly ended up with NO ONE simping after dudes way below her league. As a desi it made me feel so concerned - like okay if this is the best *these* women can do then what does that imply about the social market value "tax" women face if they're women of colour or Indian or whatever? IDK it made me feel so uneasy.
It's awful lol. She just rotates the candidates.

Just started watching S1 and I actually love Aparna and her mother. They are HVW who don't take shit from men. Nadia seems nice too, but she doesn't know what she wants. Aparna certainly does. But geez, I would hate to be a woman in India... what an awful system for women.
I'm watching season 1 atm... It's definitely a totally different paradigm than the modern/western world. Very traditional values and the new generations obviously pushing up against it. Bizarre and uncomfortable at times to watch... even for some of the sons. you can see they are being pushed into it... Also thought it was so bizarre how they kept saying Ankita's looks were a 'barrier', effectively calling her ugly, omg she was stunning?
