Bates Motel is a pretty good show, though. I like it because Norma Bates is a fully fleshed out character in it, and Vera Farmiga did a phenomenal job playing her. It doesn't just stop at "guy is serial killer because of mother" - it gets into why Norma is the way she is, gets the audience to feel for her, and Norman has a relatively normal brother in the show, which somewhat subverts the "blame it all on the mother" trope.
