Has anybody seen this show? It’s really hard to watch … since it’s a pretty realistic depiction of hookup culture.
The leading character is seeing a guy who is blatantly lying to her face about being exclusive, and to the face of his girlfriend who doesn’t trust him. He consistently gaslights the girlfriend and claims to love her while cheating on her. And it’s hard watching both of the women crawl back to him again and again. You observe scenes of him being seemingly sweet with both of them and then just blatantly, without empathy, lying to their faces.
There is also a virgin whose first sexual encounters are with a selfish guy who doesn’t give a fuck about her pleasure, nor her pain during sex. He obviously only wants to fuck her from behind. The show also depicts her shame and embarrassment about the encounter, since her friends are bragging about having amazing sex and she is too embarrassed to admit that her encounters are one sided.
It is a pretty intense show about the brutal realities of hookup culture and women pretending to “not care” even when they obviously do. And the pressure women face to engage in a culture that’s clearly designed to benefit men.
My pickme alarm definitely went crazy watching this show... Ugh! This is why it's so important that we pour into young women and remind them of their worth. Even Pippa who seems like the most self-possessed of the girls on the outside is so obviously "pickme" over Wrigley despite being way above of his league. And Lucy... poor Lucy. First of all, she should have stopped pursuing him when she told her friends that she wasn't really that attracted to Stephen himself but something about him was compelling when she was in his presence. She seemed repulsed and confused by her own desire for him in the beginning which is never a good sign. And then Stephen tells her to her face that he doesn't mind if she sleeps with other people! A guy who is actually interested in you will mind very much if you are sleeping with other people and he will be relationship minded rather than hookup minded. If he does not care about losing you in the slightest... that ain't it sis.
