It's kinda funny how fictional men are usually written to be complex, interesting, self sacrificing, brave, charismatic, caring, protective people with so much depth and traumatic backstories. The male characters usually emotionally engage with the audience the most.
Then fictional women in media are usually written to be annoying, selfish, emotionally manipulative, catty, boring with little to no personality, trophy sex objects (or villains/punching bag side characters) that are financially greedy cowards. The womens plots in the stories usually revolve around the mens adventures. (Usually the main male character(s) or potential love interest(s)
It's funny because in real life it's the complete opposite.
Men are usually the ones that are emotionally manipulative. They frequently use a woman's empathy against them.
Women are significantly more likely to deliberately stand up against opponents that are bigger and stronger than them. (Even women with ASPD. ASPD women typically get ego boosts from tearing down people smarter or more powerful than them) Men in real life usually choose targets that are significantly weaker than them or targets that won't fight back. (Men with ASPD choose weaker targets to feel dominant and for sexual satisfaction)
Women generally have much more emotional depth and tragic backgrounds. Men are usually the cause of their trauma.
Women are constantly scared of being labeled gold diggers and are generally way more self sacrificing than the majority of men. A women is way more likely to be treated like a doormat than the opposite.
Men are usually the annoying seducers trying to manipulate and control women using sex. (stealthing, pretending to have an emotional connection ect.)
Both women and men can be underhanded and catty. (Especially feminine men) but men are usually able to take it a lot further than most women are willing to. Men usually use these tactics for much more predatory reasons as well.) Women usually do it because they were hurt by the person and don't have any other way to defend themselves. (Sometimes pickmes do this to other women too but men aren't the targets of this. In fact the men benefit from it the majority of the time)
Women are the protectors of other women and children. That's why when women and children are in danger, lost or stranded they will choose to run to a group of women instead of a group of men. Heck. Even CATS's and DOG's have that same instinct! Can't blame "societal bias" on that now can we?
Most mothers would willingly die to save their childrens lives while a huge chunk of men aren't even willing to pay child support so their kids can eat.
Mens lives usually revolve around women. Women are more independent and have a higher capability of being emotionally satisfied by themselves. Women can easily get their social needs filled from other women, children and animals.
Men cannot live among other men long term. MGTOW's spend a huge chunk of their time and mental energy analyzing and discussing women. Men are willing to marry women they hate or women they aren't even attracted to if it means they don't have to be alone.
Women are usually the ones that initiate divorce. Men often argue that divorce should be illegal or harder to access. Men shoot up places, behave like sexual predators and throw egotistical tantrums if they don't get access to women (or the types of women they want) over extended periods of time. Men will commit suicide if they can't access women. (Sometimes they'll even attempt to take women with them. Even women they don't know and have no history with)
The media iis doing this on purpose. They want women to turn into sex object "I'm not like other girls" pickmes. They want men to be entitled idiots with inflated egos and victim mentalitys.
Its all brainwashing.
I agree 100%. The vast majority of media is written by men so of course the male characters, even when flawed, are depicted as complex and interesting while women are frequently one-note characters. I do think that things are a bit better than they used to be though. When I was growing up in the 1980's, most films of the time depicted strong men going off on great adventures while the women were just the designated love interest e.g. James Bond, Indiana Jones, Batman (1989). While I definately think there is plenty of room for improvement, I do feel like current films and TV shows are at least trying to write interesting female characters.
I wonder if this could be extended to the "annoying girlboss"-trope. Like the She-hulk or some other badly written female character who's only personality trait is that she's strong & independent and that she hates men. Now I won't get into whether I like the trope or not, but apparently most people don't. What if the media is purposefully writing these characters to be unlikeable to turn people against the actual independent women or feminists in general?
Well, yeah. If the ultimate aim of patriarchy is to ensure men get mates (which is the opposite of how life works naturally . . . in "nature" most males die virgins), then it makes sense that a patriarchal society will brainwash its people to believe that males have the desirable traits that actually only really exist in females. That ensures 1) males feel entitled to females; and 2) females spend their lives obsessing over finding "the one" instead of using their many virtues for the billions of other things those virtues were meant for.
Also, even in media that caters to women in which the women ARE interesting and multi-dimensional characters, the men are also written to be , well, what women WANT, which are the traits of . . . other females. Even the form of intimacy shown in media targeting women uses the form that really only exists successfully between women (exclusivity, an interest in excavating eachother's interiority, consistent communication of emotions and thoughts, perpetual switching up of perspectives, and so on).
The media is run by males.
Men should not write women the same way Whites really don't need to write Blacks.
Fantastic post OP, it's really thought provoking.
I saw something on TikTok along the lines of that feeling when you realise the fictional male characters that women crush on are all written by women.
Once again, you absolutely knock it out of the park! I love your posts. They're so eye opening!
