I am a newcomer to the Elena Ferrante universe but now refuse to give up my seat. The show leaves me enthused for more and more of this story about two friends who begin life in the same impoverished Neopolitan neighborhood but whose lives take startlingly different turns. It's so much more than this, of course, as you see a slice of what life for women and girls was like in 1950s Italy.
In short, I'm obsessed with the show and how many FDS truths it reveals from a historical-literary perspective.
I have the books and want to read them! I will probably check out the series one day.
I've watched some episodes when they gave it on italian TV and I was definitely impressed. I borrowed her books from my local library and I've recently read "I giorni dell'abbandono" (not sure what the english title is). It was a very emotional read. I wish I could convey the nuance of that book.. Maybe I'll make a post about it. Anyway, from everything she wrote it looks like Elena Ferrante leans FDS lmao. I'm ready to dive in the My brilliant friend saga next!
I loved that show! Quite horrifying but so real.
