So, recently I watched seasons 1 & 2 of the show 'Ginny & Georgia', and also Seasosn one of 'The Flatshare'.
In both of these shows there are depictions of abusive male relationships. And specifically, distinctively, controlling men. Men who are psychologically and emotionally abusive (and also physically in some cases). I really appreciate these depictions and they really resonated with my experiences, which I feel aren't often really well understood in the status quo main stream etc. Did anyone else also watch Ginny & Georgia and just feel so seen?
Did anyone else watch the Flatshare and have lightbulb moments re the character Justin's behaviour and Tiffany's responses/reactions to this?
I think it's so great when shows like this show this behaviour, and center the woman and her struggle to get out of it, (but not in a weird rapey way like many shows/movies often do! normalising rape culture, and violence against women, of course).
Whilst I do hope we shift to better content in general that doesn't depict violence and sets good models for relating for us all, I do believe there is value in these true-(er) depictions, also.
Love to hear your thoughts if you too have seen these two shows, and any others you have seen in a similar vein.
I enjoyed Ginny & Georgia. Georgia murdering her abusive and pedophile ex-husbands was very satisfying. I don’t blame her and I personally think they got what they deserved. Do you think Paul who she is engaged to is HVM?
