Good to know. But now I wonder if any doctors are willing to prescribe it for this type of use.

I always hear about potential medical breakthroughs and years or even decades later nothing has changed.

Prosthetics aren't denying nature, and recovering from fevers is well within a body's natural capabilities.

But infertile women determined to have babies, demanding that doctors use every tool in the fertility treatment tool box, even resorting to surrogacy and egg donors and pretending that they had "their own" baby, and then framing it as a moralistic, heroic "I wouldnt take no as an answer" thing is ridiculous.

People want to burn me at the stake when I say this, but ... just adopt. Millions of children around the world need homes. Adopting is easier than having your own baby when you're infertile or neary so.

Many men are only able to have kids in their 50's and 60's because of Viagra, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get it up. I think this is leveling the playing field a little and I am all for it.

You can say the same thing for HRT hormone replacement therapy. Which has numerous benefits, especially as women live at least 6 years longer than men.

Plus imagine how mad all the men folk would be if women could routinely have kids in their 50's. (Not that I would want to) But it would be so amazing to give men another reason to seethe.

Hard disagree. When a person loses their leg, nature is disallowing them from walking. A prosthetic grants them an ability that nature has denied them.

It may not exactly be medicine, but nature did not allow humans to fly, yet we now can.

"Just adopt"...its funny that your objection includes "denying nature" because its about the most natural thing in the world to pursue reproduction. Continuing our physical lineage is what evolution had instilled in us on a species level. Humanity would literally die out if not for the natural instinct to reproduce.

That said, I can understand why people urge others to "just adopt" one of the needy children out there. However, this isnt necessarily as easy as it sounds. In the USA, for example, about 1% of babies are surrendered for adoption. Adopted children do not exist in a vaccum. Adoptive parents often need to have some sort of relationship with the child's siblings, bio-parents, grandparents etc. But if they "just" have their own baby through fertility services, then they rarely need to deal with that.

You say that adopting is "easier" than using every fertility service in the book and that may be true... right now. But a drug that can delay menopause could completely change the game. Copulating is far easier than going through an adoption process.

Finally, isnt this entire website basically dedicated to the idea that women should not lower their standards? We would never tell a woman to put up with a man who has children, if the women does not want to deal with stepkids (and baby mama drama and the kids grandparents and half siblings...this sounds familiar). In dating, if a woman only wants to care for her own children (and not a mans baggage) she shouldnt be pressured to do otherwise.

Its true that fertility services can involve some controversial aspects, but delaying menopause has no such controversies.
