Welcome to the gender war. You’re in it whether you know it or not or want to be in it or not. It was there before you were born and it will continue after your death. The best we can do as women is be aware of it and fight like hell for women’s rights and women’s safety while we’re alive in the hope that future generations will benefit.
Don’t let the current propaganda tell you that feminism is bad and being anti feminist is good. It essentially translates to “women are bad” when the reality is that everyone benefits under feminism—including men. Feminism benefits women, children, seniors, the disabled, BIPOC, and the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone would equally gain rights, benefits, and safety within feminism, but men unfortunately have the incorrect view that giving rights to others will lessen theirs. Everyone should be championing women and working together with us to create a better world for all —except we’re not. Everyone is divided instead. Why? What happened?
According to feminist author Susan Faludi, the blame falls on a continuous pattern of societal anti-feminist backlash whenever women make any advance in their rights —and we are currently experiencing the start of a big and bad one in response to the Me Too movement. If we’re not careful, if we’re not fierce, it could set women’s rights back decades.
“America has never been willing to spend time caring about the safety of women without making them pay for it later. The Me Too moment was going to end. Then there was going to be a backlash, and it was going to hurt. The backlash has arrived.”
“The anti-feminist backlash has been set off not by women’s achievement of full equality but by the increased possibility that they might win it. It is a preemptive strike that stops women long before they reach the finish line.”
I very much believe the pattern is real having experienced it more than once in my lifetime. I grew up during the backlash against working women when the propaganda was about how working women were ruining families & society. I was groomed by society, my family, my schools, my peers, and by entertainment media to be anti-feminist, to be a “cool girl”. I experienced the rise of porn and the subsequent normalization of the degradation and sluttification of women. It was all a big patriarchal lie —a backlash against the rights women gained before I was even born.

My reaction is to simply not talk to or deal with men whenever possible. Doing this on a mass scale would have an effect, I guarantee that. Catering to them and their feelings has gotten us NOWHERE.
Excellent write up, and great article! I remember when the Louis C.K. story came out, and people were arguing that what he did (pressuring women to say it was okay to masturbate in front of them) wasn't "that bad." Literally, fucking disgusting! Like that is what we are. It isn't that bad for a man to whip his penis out and ejaculate while staring at us. We should all just forgive this nasty creepy!
What happened to Amber Heard is one of the most despicable things I have ever seen in media! I remember she wiped her nose on the stand with a tissue and people were accusing her doing cocaine. They thought Johnny Depp was "hilarious" in the pathetic clips of him being a bloated ass on stand.
And then Megan! A strong beautiful woman, and she detailed in an article how much anxiety she faced daily and how she essentially pulled away from everyone. "Lawyers" on YouTube convincing everyone she was lying.
Even when women seek justice, even if you win and have undeniable proof, you are still called a liar, shamed, and ruined.
“Faludi argues that each feminist backlash always centers on two ‘pressure points,’ which it rapidly endangers: a woman’s control over her own fertility, and a woman’s claim to her own paycheck.”
Yeah. And these bastards can fuck ALL the way off my body, personhood, and livelihood. 🤬
The worst part is: women’s own internalized misogyny keeping them from forming resistance. The biggest anti-MeToo backlash I’ve seen in my own life is from other women.
The last time I dated a man from OLD — pre-pandemic — I said out loud, for no specific reason, “I think we are in a gender Cold War.”
Him: “Who said it was cold?”
(Footnote: Don’t be fooled by the display of self-awareness; he was a user and coward in the end)
This reminds me of a great blog called Trust Your Perception- I think someone on here recommended it. It had a great article (pretty long and detailed) about the war between the sexes at a biological level. Basically, it's a struggle to control the genome and males of all species evolve ways to hijack and use females to make copies of themselves. This war manifests itself on a macro level in the societal and political ways we see. It's a pretty cool blogpost and was extremely informational. It explains this sort of backlash perfectly. Can't recommend it enough! (although the solutions presented at the end are not very practical)
Here's the link, if anyone wants to check it out- https://trustyourperceptions.wordpress.com/2016/05/07/semen-mens-chemical-war-against-women-no-skip-intro/
Susan's book is gold, the audiobook has her forward from 2020, and she points out that "the more things change, the more they stay the same"
